The Teatro Colon is very good at getting things done! We were told yesterday to let them know which seats ( price wise) and date for the performance we want to see and they would let us know if we can get seats.
This morning we got our confirmation !
So on Halloween, this year, I will be watching Ballet in Buenos Aires.. how cool is that! :)

SharonG Sep 24th, 2006 02:28 PM

Scarlett, that is very cool. I just know you are going to have fun. I thought of you yesterday when I was carrying my gorgeous bronze leather purse that I bought at Patio Bullrich (I think it was in the store called Prune or was it Skin?). I also found little shops along the way as I walked around the city. Plus, I had a cold when I arrived (I seem to get them everytime I fly these days) and there was a wonderful pharmacy across from my hotel (Four Seasons)and the pharmacist gave me some great medicine including these fizzy tablets for a cough that were so great I went back and bought two more tubes. The pharmacy also had lovely scarves, hair accessories and fragances so I did quite a bit of shopping there too.

SharonG, you are the best!
The fizzy stuff sounds good as I have been reading of the sore throats one can get from all the exhaust fumes and being a non-smoker, that air will get to me too...so I will stock up on Argentine drugs ~lol..
A friend and I are making lists from your recommendations btw- the Sharon Shopping List :D

drdawggy Sep 24th, 2006 05:11 PM

Prune and Skin....ah, my wife's two favorite shopping venues in Buenos Aires....Both are local chains with outlets in most malls and places like Florida street....

Scarlett Sep 24th, 2006 05:22 PM

Oh dr, you are definitely a Good Husband...only the Good ones remember the names of their wives favorite shops :)
Thank you, Prune and Skin go on the list...sigh, this is getting to be a verrry long list~

Hi Scarlett! I'm bookmarking because I want to go tooooooooo.......

SharonG Sep 25th, 2006 09:26 AM

Oh Scarlett, I almost forgot. The Alvear Palace Hotel (I think that's the right name) is on a street (Alvear) that was described to me as BA's "Fifth Avenue". If you go into the hotel there is this winding passageway with lots of wonderful shops. How could I forget it????

avrooster Sep 25th, 2006 10:18 AM

SharonG: Did you have a drink at the Alvear Palace Hotel's famous bar?

SharonG Sep 25th, 2006 10:25 AM

Avrooster, I did not. I was a little intimidated by how grand the place was. Now I wish I had. Not to worry, I plan to be going back as soon as my finances allow.

avrooster Sep 25th, 2006 10:55 AM

I must be losing my perception SharonG!!
For some reason or other, I had you figured out as someone not easily intimidated!! LOL!!!
Please DO get your finances in shape, pronto!!
Our poor economy needs you URGENTLY!! LOL!!

SharonG Sep 25th, 2006 12:13 PM

I know, I'm usually pretty assertive but I was at a disadvantage cause I didn't feel good. Next time I'm just going to march right in there and order a pisco sour. I love those things!

Scarlett Sep 25th, 2006 03:42 PM

I am going to try to meet someone at the Alvear for drinks, so I will also check out the shops , thanks for that info Sharon ( my enabler) :)

marigross, good! get the list together then make your reservations :)

SharonG Sep 25th, 2006 05:02 PM

Scarlett, glad I can play some small role in your trip! I can't wait to read your report.

skatedancer Sep 25th, 2006 05:25 PM

I have a friend who is from Lima, Peru and she introduced me to the pisco sour to which I have now become addicted. But don't miss the great red wines in Argentina that go so well with the unbelievable beef.

"If you enjoy museums, don't miss the Bellas Artes..just a block or so from Plaza Francia in Recoleta. I was amazed by the sheer volume of European masters represented..." Excellent advice from dr. dawggy, as usual. We loved this museum--they even had two Modiglianis, favorites of mine.

We stayed at the Plaza Francia and walked to what we thought was the museum. Turned out to be the law school and we were redirected by a young man who was a student there. Another example of the helpful, friendly people in BsAs. We found our way to the museum easily with his directions.

Arrived home yesterday from our wonderful 10-day trip to Savannah and St. Augustine and I have been trying to catch up on the latest at Fodors!

Scarlett Sep 28th, 2006 06:03 PM

Hi Giovanna, I really like St Augustine, did you post a trip report yet? When we lived in Fl, I loved spending the day there, shopping and eating and driving along the beaches.
I do look forward to a Museum a Day :) in Buenos Aires!

Giovanna Sep 29th, 2006 08:37 AM

I've never done a trip report for Fodors or Frommers. I'm so forgetful I started keeping travel journals and have been doing a travelogue for our own use for sometime now. I suppose I could put something together in the next few days, after I get unpacked and somewhat back to "normal."

I'm actually getting excited for both you and CMCFong and your upcoming trips. Doesn't seem possible it's almost a year since we were in BsAs. Hoping to return in the not too distant future and see more of Argentina.

Scarlett Sep 29th, 2006 09:20 AM

Imagine my notes...which are comprised of your notes and everyone elses and all of my own research! :o
Sometimes I am overwhelmed with all there is to do and see...but then my husband reminds me that once we are there, half the time I forget to look at the notes lol..but I have read your notes and think they would be Most helpful and interesting for people on this board :)
