Quepos and Manuel Antonio Area dining
I will be staying at the Tulemar Bungalow's in April and am looking for ideas for dining out in the area. What do you recommend?
Well, we'll be there in March, so watch for my trip report!
Karolas , Plinios , lots of people mention Ronnys Place , Barba Roja .
We really liked El Avion restaurant (it's really unique, great food, reasonable prices). Also, Cafe Milagro is great for any kind of coffee drink you can imagine. Try the espresso shake to cool off in the afternoon.
Not sure how far it is from Tulemar--it's probably not more than one or two bus stops away. (I'd say Villas Nicolas is probably located right between the two.) http://elavion.net/ (These are old pictures. The restaurant is beautiful now.) http://www.cafemilagro.com/ |
Anaconda, across the street from El Avion was our very favorite. We also liked Cafe Milagro and although its right "on" the street, they have fresh food a casual, fun atmosphere.
Anaconda is actually across the street from La Cantina ..... They are all owned by Costa Verde . We had super meals at Anaconda and La Cantina . Only passed by El Avion .( it is down the road a bit from Anaconda , actually across the street from El Gato Negro where we also had super meals ) I am one of the ones who finds the airplane an oddity and somewhat of an eyesore , of course I remember sitting on a deck in a hammock looking at the most beautiful view .... now to stare at the plane , not quite the same thing .

Cafe Agua Azul at Villas El Parque has new owners and new chef to the area. They're doing a great job www.cafeaguaazul.com Also new to the area and fabulous is LaHacienda in the Yara Plaza. www.lahaciendacr.com

Thanks for all of the input. Missypie, I will be looking for your trip report!
We are staying at Tulemar in April as well. Does anyone know how the food is at the Tule Cafe there?
Karolas is yummy! The restaurant in Si como no is nice too...great view & good deals on the seafood platter ($25 for fish/shrimp/crab/scallops/clams/...ect).
We just got back...We loved eating at Plinios (intl. foods..yummy), Ronny's Place (the ceriviche was delicious and the sunset view is the best), and El Avion (lovely and delicious).
We just returned from Manuel Antonio and felt that El Avion offered a great view and a good margarita..but thought the food was just okay. Had a good dinner at Plinio's....but by far the best meal was next door at the restaurant attached to the Mirador del Pacifico hotel. Great music on Friday nights too!!!
I second Lisa's recommendation of Agua Azul! Great atmosphere, BEAUTIFUL views and good food!!!!! Also loved El Avion, in fact, my son still talks about the shrimp and pasta dish he ate there!!!
Loved Rico Tico at Si Como No, but would also recommend Mar Luna and Ronnie's Place if you want to get away a little from more gringo touristed locations. Had good/cheap meals at both. Generally speaking, you can't go wrong in the area. Note: there are two Cafe Milagros -- one is a restaurant and the other is just a coffee house. Believe the one closer to Quepos has food.
Oh my, can't believe I forgot to mention Mar Luna! Mar Luna is located just past La Colina Resort on the right side across from Babaloo Hotel. Doesn't look "fancy" from the outside, the food is fabulous. The Cafe Milagro in M. Antonio serves bkfts and lunch, El Patio Cafe Milagro in Quepos (across from the waterfront) serves dinner also. Very good! Lisa
Gosh, now I don't know which one to choose! Thanks everyone!
Ronnie's place was great. Go early (5-5:30ish) to be in place with a jug of sangria in time for sunset. The grilled lobster was the best I've had. Mar Luna was excellent too, for river shrimp that were really special.
Don't mean to butt in but it sounds like there are so many hotels are they all close together? Can you walk to these restaurants? Or is it necessary to take a cab everywhere? I am staying at Casitas Eclipse is that near Ronnie's or any good inexpensive restaurants?
I am leaving tomorrow to CR and can't wait to try all the dining recommendations! I'll check the board tomorrow for any updates!
We were very disappointed in Claro que Si at Si Como No. Most of our food was inedible.
