Looking forward to visiting the country you grew up in. We do have reservations for the Coffee Estate Inn already but they only had a limited amount of days available so we are happy to have recommendations for other places in the area as well as other ideas for 8 days that would lead us back to the CR border to make our reservations just north of the border. Still thinking seriously of the Canopy Tower.

Jessie,

We booked our hotels a couple of months ago, and still didn't get our preferred dates for Canopy Tower during January. So, if you want to stay there, you should probably check soon. Jean

Jesse,
Barry and Jane who own the Coffee Estate Inn (used to be called La Montana y El Valle) are super people (they are Canadian, that's why!!!)and they really know how to look after their guests... Barry is a super cook/chef...
Another good place if you want longer in Boquete is Los Establos...

Thanks cmcfong, as you may have guessed, Panama is now my home and we love it here.

Cheers to all,
Andrew

Thanks to all of you who have responded. We are really looking forward to our trip to Panama and if the birds are as great as we hear I am sure we will love it. We were particularly happy to get some more recommendations near the Coffee Estate Inn.

Jean, thanks for the heads up on the availibility of the Tower. We will get on that asap. Always next year too.

Taking this back to the top and to the orginal subject ... Panama in August. Any other descriptions of what to expect in August other than hot and afternoon showers? Realizing it can vary in different regions, is the humidity comparable to Southeast US in August? Better? Worse? What about insects? Any major problems with mosquitoes or other insects that time of year?

Thanks!

I lived in Panama for several years. During August we had heavy rain at least once a day. It is humid and there are plenty of mosquitos. It is called rainy season and the advantage of travelling that time of year is that the country will be very green.

What to expect: heat and humidity unlike anything you have ever encountered. I have been to Florida in August (NEVER AGAIN!!!) and lived in New Orleans; but the humidity and heat in Panama will literally take your breath away, but so will the country and it's a fabulous trip. Enjoy!

Two points, in Boquete and the Chiriqui area temps and humidity will be less than in Panama city.
Also, check out this month's issue of Conde Nast Traveler for an excellent article on Panama.
