Hi Eileen - We did go to the PV downtown once - we had friends staying near that had a car. The resort does charge a lot for transportation - I think it was $30 each. The van goes at a certain time and then picks up at a certain place at around 10:30 or so. My husband and I play golf - and they have a wonderful course - so we did that almost every day. We were only there for 5 days but did not get bored at all. They do have a lot of activities to choose from, ie. tequila tasting, hikes, walks, etc. and a nice fitness center and spa. The food is good - there is the main restaurant - very good and then a seaside more casual spot. Also a bar poolside with snacks. The hotel did recommend a restaurant not too far away, a little north of punta mita - but we didn't get a chance to try it. I would go again in a heartbeat! have fun. PS there is not too much downtown - but nice to check everything out. Some good restaurants there too.

Hacienda Kantanchel, about 1/2 hour outside of Merida. Incredible.
