Avrooster---a flagging function will also be added.

Great idea! It is so frustrating to have to scroll through all the Costa Rica and Mexico items to find ones dealing with Argentina.
|
Yes, heaven forbid I might read about some place new on a travel website (LOL)!
;-) |
Happy T - I was thinking it's frustrating to have to scroll through all the Argentina posts to get to the Costa Rica ones - lol!

Dear Katie_H:
Nine hours ago, I e-mailed the Fodor's editors asking them to delete one of MY OWN posts in the "Extortionate Internal Airfares in Argentina" thread, which I had posted before I had completed it and was, therefore, a mistake. It's still there and that's one of the things I don't like about this website, as I said before. |
Hi avrooster--I just deleted it. Please send similar requests to [email protected]. The [email protected] address is flooded with spam and email related to other areas of Fodor's. It is sorted daily. I'm sorry it took so long for us to remove your post.
We are also working on updating our FAQ and contact us links; I want it to be easy for our members to send us email whether they have a question, suggestion, or a problem to report. |
Katie, I'm feeling ignored ;)
Any feedback on the request to separate out the poles? I can't see anyone interested in polar travel objecting to this as it really doesn't combine/ fit into any of the existing regions and is only lumped into them due the departure points for most trips. |
Sorry Kavey! We don't plan on it at this point. There are other areas of the world too that we have this problem with---off the top of my head I'm thinking Greenland.
Thank you for the suggestion; I'll keep it in mind. Are most of these threads currently tagged "Chile"? It was my understanding that most trips do leave from there. Are you heading there soon? |
Most Antarctic cruises leave from Argentina and some from New Zealand. For Arctic cruises, there are several departure points as they could be to Greenland, Canadian Artic, Svalbard, etc. A polar forum could be a one stop source of information.
|
Thank you, Katie_H!
I'll try the forums address, next time. |
Thanks for the info Patty---I wonder if there's something we can do to encourage these sort of questions in the Cruise forum? We currently have older topics in that forum dedicated to cruise lines---but I think it might make more sense to focus on destinations for cruises--
Artic Alaska Caribbean Antartica Just something I thought of just now; I also like your suggestion of having a dedicated area to these types of trips. |
Actually I just realized that we do have a "tag" in the cruise forum for Antartica cruises--but it's very buried. I can understand why it wouldn't be used.
|
Katie, aah, that's a shame, but thanks for getting back to me.
I know that the two poles are an increasingly popular topic of conversation, hence thought a separate forum would work well. As above, just the Antarctic alone has threads in this board, in the Cruise board, in the Australia/NZ board and even a couple in the Africa board, because, quite frankly, it doesn't actually belong anywhere else so why not! ;) |
Katie- you mention that in the new display, posts will be organized by country tab. If a post is about more than one country, will it be displayed multiple times? Thanks,
Karen (And I'm having second thoughts about my vote to split them. I think I agree with suze.) |
In terms of posts with multiple countries---it will work the way it does now in that you will be able to "double-tag" something with more than one category if you wish. Your thread will appear in both results for "sort this forum by location: Belize" and "sort this forum by location: Costa Rica" if both countries were selected when you originally posted.
Basically, we are trying to "pull out" the very hidden function of the (often non-functioning) search tool at the top of this page. I understand reservations about splitting this forum but I think there is enough interest to have separate forum. Canada has its own forum for instance. This is something we've wrestled with on the other forums, including the Africa & Middle East forum. I do think we'd receive more new folks doing searches online for trips to South America than we would for Latin America. And more new members are a good thing for everybody. But I recognize too that there is a unique "camaraderie" on every forum here and we don't want to disrupt that without seeing first what your opinions are. |
Change is good and I hate to be negative, but I still think this forum should not be split. If it had tons of posts, yes. I have interests in both Central & South America so like having them together. Selfish I guess.
Originally, I surfed here for info on Mexico & Argentina. When I saw so many posts on Costa Rica, it piqued my interest and we ended up going to CR last fall, just because of all the glowing reviews here. Just my 2 pesos. MY |
Hey Katie
You go girl! stick to your guns and make it happen. |
I want to give another vote for NOT splitting. I also have an interest in both CA and SA - and sometimes seeing posts peeks your interest in a place you weren't even considering. The volume of posts doesn't seem unmanageable - and you can always just pick the country from the list and press 'search' if you want to narrow it down. I personally like skimming through all of the posts - but maybe I have too much time on my hands!
|
Maybe call it "Mexico, Central and South America." That way it would return a hit on a google search and keep the forum intact. Mexico needs a separate mention because, of course, it is part of North America.
|
I vote to definitely split into two forums and think it's a great idea.
