Costa Rica - assorted questions

As our trip nears, I keep coming up with more questions. Of course, now that I'm at the computer, I can only think of one. More may follow.

If we are from the US, will we need an adapter/ converter to use electrical items in Costa Rica. We have a set that we take to Europe, but no sense taking them if we don't need them.

I already thought of the second question.

Is dress informal? I am guessing shorts and t-shirts might be appropriate - unlike big city or European vacations.

No adapter needed - same as US.

Dress is usually informal, but you will want more than shorts and t-shirts for some venues.

Thanks cdrcos. I can cross adapter off my packing list.

We'll take better clothes too! I was just checking if shorts/t-shirts might be OK for driving around/ hiking/ziplining - that sort of thing.

Thanks for your quick help.

WEIRD! I'm hipvirgochick and signed in as such. I have no idea how cdrcos is coming up!

Boy, that is weird.

Weird, hip!

Dress is very casual, but I bring capris and a pair of long pants in addition to shorts. The weather can be cool at night in some areas. I packed a pair of heels on first trip and haven't made that mistake since! Casual skirts or a sun dress would be fine too if you wanted them, but it's a pretty much anything goes environment. I strive to be clean - lol.

LOL volcanogirl. We are going to a rehearsal dinner and wedding, so in my case, I'll be wearing the heels those nights.

Next question:

Should we rent a GPS with the rental car? It seems like I saw somewhere that they weren't much help in Costa Rica. OTOH, I just found a note that I'd copied that said to get one.

Have a great trip! Don't pack anything fancier than a sundress. Our first trip I brought fancy clothes for dinner and my husband brought a sports coat. Total waste.

Here is a place you can go to that answers just about any question you have about travel to Costa Rica.

If you are going to the Guanacaste area it will be hotter, but less humidity than most other areas. We're usually biking, trekking, kayaking, swimming, rafting or some other type of adventure on any given day, so dresses just don't work for us, but quick dry shorts are great!

Oh, and since there's no mention of shoes here, I'll give my pitch for Keen's (Whisper, my fave, or Venice or H2O). Salomon Tech's are good too if you want more of a shoe than a sandal.
