I will be there on the 24th of May and have been doing some reading about Zagreb. Sounds interesting to me--what does your book say?

I am afraid I can't say Zagreb is unpopular, it is just less visited. I spent 2 nights in Zagreb few years ago, quite enjoyed it. The walk in the old town with beautiful architecture, watching night life in Governor Jelacic Square, and museums, you could easily find enough to do for more than one day.

Or you could try a day trip to Plitvice National Park- very scenic, lovely for day-hiking.

It's not that Zagreb isn't lovely according to the posts I've read on a multitude of travel sites, it's because Zagreb tends to be a pass-through on way to Plitvice & the coast.

Sometimes I pick this guide up in Marksand Spencer store although I live - and have lived in Zagreb all of my life... it is kind of fun and informative!
