Your favorite trip reports

Looking at the large number of great European trip reports here, what reports do you remember most?

yk2004 Apr 29th, 2008 03:21 PM

I remember mine the best, obviously. ;)

Of the recent ones, I like artstuff's one on Bavaria Germany the most.

Tiff's reports. And ekscrunchy's. Oh and MaiTaiTom.

AnselmAdorne Apr 29th, 2008 03:35 PM

LuckyLuc in Paris. It was wonderful:

And mebe in Italy, one of the best trip reports I have ever read; informative, emotional, evocative:

The Tennessee Trio of Terror was pretty funny.

dgassa Apr 29th, 2008 03:43 PM

I'll second MaiTai Tom's. Can't till his next one.

Maribel Apr 29th, 2008 03:44 PM

Any dining report by JulieVikmanis, anything by escrunchy (I'm their loyal foodie fan)

plus amsdon's wonderful Segovia-Pedraza report, the Camino de Santiago walk report by marigross, also yk's incredibly detailed recent report on her February Spain trip (now that's one helpful report if I ever read one!), the recent ode to Madrid by Anne Marie....
oops and comfyshoes, as well.
I read and remember all the great Spain reports, since Spain travel is my obsession!

SuQue Apr 29th, 2008 04:00 PM

Travelgirl2 and her lengthy trip to Asia and Europe with her family.

Weadles Apr 29th, 2008 04:38 PM

Anything written by ThinGorgus. Priceless!

Kristinelaine Apr 29th, 2008 05:12 PM

Does anyone remember the really good trip report by the woman who took her parents to Europe -- I seem to remember Italy -- and suddenly just stopped writing and, I think, was never heard from again?

crefloors Apr 29th, 2008 05:39 PM

Yea, I remember that. Can't think of her name now and I don't think she's ever been back to the board. I'm thinking something really awful must have happened.

yk2004 Apr 29th, 2008 06:16 PM

I'm also a fan of noe847's TR. I like her description of museums and galleries, as well as restaurants. Her TRs are very easy to read and nicely formatted.

LowCountryIslander Apr 29th, 2008 06:23 PM

One of my all time favorites was Barbara's trip report about the Divas in Italy...it was just too funny!

And I'm put my vote in for maitaitom too!

LindaL Apr 29th, 2008 07:16 PM

Elvira's trip reports with The Loons. Sheer poetry!!!

Leely Apr 29th, 2008 07:19 PM

I've read many great reports. AnselmAdorne's are certainly among those.

The two I remember top of mind are

I've read some great trip reports here. Right now I'm waiting for the next installment by the Canadian teacher who took two dozen kids to France and Spain.

I third the MaiTaiTom - his report, chalked full of pictures and hilarity was one of my all time favorites.

Second on ThinGorgeous and Barbara and the divas - sill hoping for a movie to come out on Barbara's. Funny, I was just thinking of these last two on my way to work this morning. There are snippets of both that crack me up, even now.

All of these folks have writing styles that, while varied, I just love reading.

I really enjoyed Travelgirl's adventure of a lifetime. What a trip. I'm just so glad that people take the time to write these reports. The stories take me away and the places they talk about spark my interest for travel in different directions.

Thank you to all the people who contribute.

cigalechanta Apr 30th, 2008 10:31 AM

Thin and Elvira.

noe847 Apr 30th, 2008 10:53 AM

Wow, yk, thanks for the shout out!! Writing trip reports made me realize just how hard/time consuming it is. I learn from most, and like a huge variety of reports (funny, short, long, etc.)

I'll check my bookmarks for some of my favorites and post them with their links.

maitaitom Apr 30th, 2008 11:12 AM

I commend all who write trip reports. My favorites are from people who don't take themselves too seriously and can laugh at their misadventures.

That said, I hope my trip report on our upcoming journey will not be titled: "We Accidentally Sunk The Ferry from Rovinj to Venice!"

Thanks for the nice comments.

My favorites are from people who don't take themselves too seriously and can laugh at their misadventures.

MaitaiTom- I agree. Now wasn't it you who put gas in a diesel car? That was some of the funniest writing I have read on here, especially how you seemed to find humor in it yourself.

Maitai Tom and Barb are my favorite "real" trip report posters. Herb and Clara's trip to England was my favorite trip report spoof. And whatever happened to Billy and Betty?

Okay, you have convinced me that I should write a trip report about my latest adventures. This is what happens when you travel solo, oo-la la!!

zooey91 Apr 30th, 2008 11:44 AM

I really enjoy reading trip reports of all kinds.

After sitting down and writing a report about our trip earlier this month, I gained even more of an appreciation for all the report writers.

It's hard! And embarrassing!

But worth it.

marigross Apr 30th, 2008 11:44 AM

Oh...wow! how to even list them! Elvira and the Loons, SharonG's Le Clip and Le Disco, MaitaiTom's Tuscan Adventure and Paris trip, Statia's Vow Renewal, Travelgirl's Trip of a Lifetime, anything from Thin...

here are a few links that I could find without too much trouble.

Here are a few that I was able to find-

rickmav’s 4 month trip to England and Italy makes for a wonderful read. They visited: Yorkshire, Suffolk, East Sussex, Kent, London, Italy for three weeks, and England for Christmas. The intro and Yorkshire part is at: http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34937079
At the end are the links for the other 5 sections of the trip report.

stephcar’s Cambridge report

4 weeks in Cambridge with her husband and children ages 2 and 4

mary fran’s central and eastern Europe trip with her sister peg:

clifton’s “Trip Report: Romania, Budapest and NE Hungary. Curses, blessings and cabbage”

also, murphy had a great report of her solo trip to Greece, but I cannot find it for the life of me.

There are so many others, but I don't have the most organized bookmarking system...

Reisender Apr 30th, 2008 12:32 PM

Herb and Clara hands down....

cigalechanta Apr 30th, 2008 12:45 PM

How about topping your favorites for those of us who may not have read them?

Hmm.... I haven't been reading trip reports lately but many come to mind. I like the ones on Spain because I have been there many times and they are a fun read (amsdon, annemarie, etc come to mind). I have also liked several of hausfrau's reports because they capture the essence of it all rather well. Lastly, ThinorJus's writing is perhaps the funniest I have seen on this board.

maribel, I am honored. Your guides are fantastic and made our trip so worthwhile. And I will likely be back with more questions for you early next year!

FainaAgain Apr 30th, 2008 03:56 PM

I didn't read many reports, but MaiTaiTom's, SharonG's Trio of Terror and Elvira's loonies stand out.

Kristine, I remember her too! Her name here was an abbreviation of 4 letters, like KLMN, don't remember exactly.

My all time favorite is Rudy's "My River Cruise in Russia".

We were planning to go to Ireland that year, but I printed Rudy's report and showed it to my husband. I was surprised he even read it. But, he did, then said, "Can we do that instead?"

We booked the same trip and were thrilled. To this day, I am grateful we took that trip when we did, and to Rudy for taking the time to post.

My favorite was Magellan 5's Solo Trip Report to Prague, Subtitled "How I Froze My Ass Off in the Czech Republic". It was funny, irreverent, and informative.
