My favorite is the Let's Go guide ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s&n=507846 ). I think they have a new edition out now. I used this one in 2002 and loved it, it was only a bit bigger than a pamphlet, fit in my purse, and was easy to read. It had all the major places listed, plus a Tube map. The map is laminated, also. And on the inside was a small guidebook with recommendations for restaurants, museums, etc. I really got a lot of use out of it.

This past trip I decided I wanted something a little smaller and bought the London Pocket-Pilot. It's laminated and folds up smaller, so it was easy to carry. All the major places are listed and there's a Tube map - I just found that the print was a little small (and I have really good eyesight) and could be a bit confusing in some spots. It did show a larger area than the Let's Go map, though.

I'm a map junkie so I'm sure that by the next time I go I'll have collected another one - but I'll bring the Let's Go map with me again as well.

asalamy:

The London A-Z covers everywhere with a London postcode (anything starting with E, EC, N, NW, SW, SE, W or WC) and a bit more. There are a couple of Zone 6 tube stations beyond its boundaries, but that's about it.

Using a map other than the A-Z is as unBritish as icing your drinks to tastelessness or buying a manufacturer's brand of anything when there's a Tesco or Sainsbury own label.

I like the way you phrased that flanneruk - thank you!
