If I read between the lines, I think your thread is less about car vs public transit, and more about facts versus opinions. Again, if I read between the lines, you wish that people would be more careful to distinguish between the two. "Car parking can cost up to € 30 per day in cities" is a fact, whereas "Don't use a car in the city, it's too expensive/a waste of time" is an opinion.

That said, the fact(!) that you were given METRO directions when you asked for directions in Paris does seem to support the conclusions/opinions of others to the effect that navigation in cities can be difficult if travelling by car.

Not to worry, I think most people understood your point, but people (including me) can be passionate about our opinions. As long as nobody makes their opinion personal (e.g., "you are stupid to use a car") you need not fear that they are being hostile. Enjoy your trips.
