Who is Going Where, When ?

Hi
Reading all these threads about this ones trip and that ones plans, my lil ole head is spinning.
So, I thought in case there were other spinning heads here, we might all chime in with our plans for trips coming up.
Feel free to tell as many details as possible ~ nothing like living vicariously through my friends until we get our home sold and are free to take off again!

Statia Aug 26th, 2003 10:34 AM

Ok Scarlett, I'll bit.

Returned from Florence and Venice, Italy in July. Going to Miami on business in September. On to Houston to see family, friends and take care of those much needed yearly errands in October.

Next biggie, however, is Scotland and Ireland in April, Lord willing.

Who's next?

pchsmiles Aug 26th, 2003 10:39 AM

... well, taking a chance, actually to FL in two days (someone said there's a a party) to hit the beach (red tide or no!)... then back out to LA ... then Maui. Part fun-part business. Nothing international and sexy to close out '03. Got to clean house this fall -my in-laws are coming!!! Why did I give them my free passes!!

pchsmiles Aug 26th, 2003 10:42 AM

... pardon my whining! I already did have some great trips, two international, this year, so why should I be complaining. Pardon.

bryarsmom Aug 26th, 2003 10:46 AM

Hi Scarlett, My husband and I leave Friday(8/29)for a short Labor Day trip to New Orleans with some friends-from here in Atlanta.

BUT WAIT!THERE'S MORE!

In early Nov.(8th)we fly to Rome for our big trip of the year-stops in Rome, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. We got a great pkg. deal-originally from an email from Frommer's(sorry Fodor's). My husband wanted to splurge on the hotel in Sorrento-so we're booked in an oceanview at the Bellevue Syrene-high up on the cliffs.2 goals on this trip:finding inexpensive, good restaurants(I'm making my list)and packing VERY lite and practical-1 carry-on a piece.

In 2004,assuming my husband's health is doing well, we're headed to Kauai.

Happy traveling to all our fellow Fodorites...

OK, I'm in-Italy in 5 weeks--Florence, Sienna, Positano, Capri and Rome. Too much packed into too short of a time but what else is new. Hopefully NYC this spring, Seattle to see family in the summer and Fla. a year from October, plus whatever else comes up. Unfortunately I can't hook anything on to a work trip unless I want to go to Peoria or Cairo (Illinois that is).

Statia Aug 26th, 2003 10:48 AM

My post should have read "bite," not bit. Fingers are getting ahead of me today.

gualalalisa Aug 26th, 2003 10:50 AM

Hey Scarlett, thanks for asking.

Since DH hates long plane flights, our itinerary sounds a bit bizarre but here goes (we are staying 3 to 4 days in each place):

Leaving S.F. for NYC Sept. 30

NYC to Madrid
Madrid to Prague
Prague to Bertchesgaden
Bertchesgaden to Durnstein
Durnstein to Vienna
Vienna to Slovakia
Slovakia to Budapest
Budapest to Lisbon
Lisbon to NYC
NYC to S.F.

The whole trip will take 5 weeks and we can't wait! And every single place we booked was on recommendations from this board - I really trust the Fodorites!

pchsmiles Aug 26th, 2003 10:50 AM

... impressive! And yes, I do hope your husband will be doing well, not just for the travel, but for life in general. Not sure why, but your statement hit a chord.

Scarlett Aug 26th, 2003 10:50 AM

Statia
would you email me at [email protected] :)

Sept 5th I head out to Italy and France with my daughter (she's 25) We will spend 2 nites in Rome, 4 on Capri, 2 in Cinque Terre, 4 in Nice and finish up in Paris for 3 nites. Obviously we enjoy sunny locales but will fit in some art in Rome (Borghese Gallery), maybe Chagall in Nice, maybe Rodin in Paris. We are visiting the French Riviera for the first time - went to Amalfi area in May 2002 and are eager to revisit. The other day we were strolling around the local mall discussing dinner options and my daughter says "I can't wait to get to Europe and get some good food!" Not sure if that statement reflects worse on our local restaurant scene or on my daughter that I have spoiled with too much travel!

Statia Aug 26th, 2003 10:53 AM

Sure! It's done.

Hi Scarlett....I am off to London in 2 weeks and will stay there 9 days...then on to the Cotswolds for a weeks stay in a lovely cottage....then on to Salisbury for a few nights before returning to the states...I have just retired from teaching after 34 years...so my teaching buddy of 25 years...is going with me...we have decided to leave husbands at home on this trip....when we get back, husband and I will leave for the beach for a week...then next spring, we will go to Ireland for 2 weeks...this is so much fun...being retired and traveling.

Scarlett Aug 26th, 2003 10:55 AM

Thank you all, keep them coming!
bryarsmom, Oceanview on the cliffs, sounds SO wonderful. I too hope your husbands health remains good, for a very long time~
gualalalalisa, LOL, I know I got that name wrong, can I call you lisa? I like the idea of all those stops, sort of makes it seem like a much longer trip. Hey, however you get to go, the going is what is important, right?
How cool that so many people will be in Italy (sigh) and NYC ... I am thinking, a NYC GTG would be sooo great!
OK, back to the plans, more more!!

We leave for our wedding in Venice and honeymoon in France in 11 days.

We have 3 nights in Rome (to file wedding paperwork and do some sightseeing and shopping as well).

Then 4 nights in Venice. We then fly to the south of France.

1 night in St. Paul de Vence, 2 nights in St. Tropez and then 3 nights in St. Remy in Provence.

Drive a long, long way to the Loire Valley.

Then 3 nights in Montbazon outside Tours and then ending with 5 nights in Paris.

In 2004

We are planning 16 nights in Egypt in February.

Then 15 nights in Peru in late August/early September.

Dawn

Scarlett,

Count me in on a NYC get together! I'm there every year in either March or April. Forgot to mention that one in my plans, along with a little R&R in St. Martin in a couple more weeks. Gotta switch "rocks" every now and then.

Scarlett Aug 26th, 2003 11:10 AM

pcheesy, that is something I am looking forward to! Travel & Retirement, if I can convince the Yankee that he can do it early!
OMG, Dawn!! What an amazing and wonderful wedding and honeymoon!

OK, Statia, we will keep it in mind and work on it :)

AP6380 Aug 26th, 2003 11:11 AM

Rome for 5 nights, Calabria for 5 nights in mid-September. From Rome we are hoping to do the organized bus trip to Naples-Sorrento-Pompeii. I'm also waiting for a response for the Scavi tour. While in Calabria I hope to get to Tropea for a day, and go to local festivals and eat very, very well!!!!

Schildc1 Aug 26th, 2003 11:12 AM

This September, my husband and I will be seeing many US Civil War sites for the first time. But we couldn't resist reserving a week in February(3rd year in a row) for London. The theatre beckons and, if we're really lucky, we'll be able to pay a return visit to Ben Haines' church in South London. He and his fellow congregants were so welcoming last year! Thanks for posting the question so I can keep my mind on future trips and not our horrible heat and humidity here in Chicago!

Grin Aug 26th, 2003 11:14 AM

I'm off for 10 days on the Mosel at the end of September. I just made my reservations today with Frau Hilken (at Russ's recommendation!) I'm so excited I can barely stand it! I hope you all have excellent trips!
