Which fictional big name?

OK, there's that other thread about famous seatmates for a long flight. WHich fictional character would you choose as your seatmate for a transatlantic flight? I'm sure there are others but one that comes to mind is President Josiah Bartlett from The West Wing. Smart, witty, and nice to look at....

I'd go with my first love--Mr. Edward Rochester from Jane Eyre.

Dave Oct 31st, 2000 11:02 AM

Superman, or any gravity-defying superhero. Just in case.

Annette Oct 31st, 2000 11:22 AM

My choice would be Agnes Browne, Irish writer Brendan O'Carroll's ficitional Dublin mother in his books The Mammy and The Chisellers. I understand these first two books are part of a trilogy which he will soon finish. The Mammy was made into a movie starring Anjelica Huston called Agnes Browne. I don't think it has the impact of the book, but still it's good.

Agnes is absolutely hand down hiliarious. She loves Tom Jones, like me. I'm still a little peeved at my friends who wouldn't go with me to see him last year when we were in Vegas. If only Agnes were there!

Anita Oct 31st, 2000 11:33 AM

Saint-Germain from Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's series of books. He's a few thousand years old and would be fascinating to talk to, but I think I'd need a much longer flight.

Maira Oct 31st, 2000 11:55 AM

Captain Corelli from 'Corelli's Mandolin'.

Just read the book....

lisa Oct 31st, 2000 11:55 AM

This is a very tough choice. My thoughts first went to Mr. Darcy, but then I thought maybe Laurie from Little Women (so I could explain why Amy is all wrong for him).

Diane Oct 31st, 2000 12:53 PM

George Smiley (John LeCarre)

Linda Oct 31st, 2000 01:06 PM

Hawkeye Pierce from M*A*S*H

Thyra Oct 31st, 2000 01:45 PM

Rhett Butler, of course, especially if we were in first class and he was paying!

Tony Hughes Oct 31st, 2000 01:53 PM

Either Daisy Duke circa 1979 or Jane Fonda in her Barbarella guise or possibly actress Jami Gertz as Star from The Lost Boys (yes i know all real people but still playing fictional characters)

Cindy Oct 31st, 2000 01:58 PM

Hans Solo. That way, I get to sit next to Harrison Ford. Is that cheating?

Tony Hughes Oct 31st, 2000 02:03 PM

Cindy, thats fine as long as you can put up with Chewy pawing away at you during the flight!

Claire Oct 31st, 2000 04:21 PM

Jamie Fraser

Carin Oct 31st, 2000 04:25 PM

You're right, Lisa! Amy IS all wrong for Laurie - I never could stand her or figure out how they ended up together.

I think my favorite seatmate would be Cynthia Coppersmith Kavanaugh from Mitford.

SharonM Oct 31st, 2000 05:27 PM

Well...upon watching the movie I'm watching right now...ole' Vlad Dracula is a Definite possibility...

I'm still thinking of more though...

SharonM Oct 31st, 2000 06:29 PM

YIKES!!!
Scratch the Vlad Dracula idea!
I don't care HOW good-looking he was!

(happy halloween!)

pam Oct 31st, 2000 06:55 PM

Oooh, Hawkeye Pierce is a good choice. I might even have to go vote for Alan Alda on the non-fiction big name thread.

xxx Oct 31st, 2000 07:07 PM

Sheepishly, it seems that we men have dared not express the objects of our drooling here. Not sure why that is.

But I'll vote for Hana, the nurse that took care of Count László Almásy (the English Patient).

Oh and what a coincidence - - that role was played by Juliette Binoche, wasn't it? Okay, she can play it in the seat next to me too.

elvira Oct 31st, 2000 07:55 PM

Nicholai Hel...or Adam Dalgleish.

Craig Nov 1st, 2000 02:29 AM

Beowulf or the Grendel, though they would take up a lot of leg room.
Sysaphus (sp?), though he would be lamenting the trip back.
Robin Hood would help me with seating all of the first class passengers in coach and vice versa.

I think it would have to be Ian Flemming's James Bond (I am a married man, so this limits my choices and of course I thought of HER, but I wouldn't dare type it). So long as he wasn't wearing a mini parachute under his tux and I was.

-Craig

DonkeyDong Nov 1st, 2000 05:21 AM

I would choose John Holmes as he would easily be able to 'shoehorn' me back into my seat after dinner.

Donna Nov 1st, 2000 12:58 PM

Atticus Finch or Hawkeye Pierce

Joanna Nov 1st, 2000 12:59 PM

Sherlock Holmes (the late Jeremy Brett's incarnation).

cool Nov 1st, 2000 01:02 PM

SUPERFLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Linda Nov 1st, 2000 06:37 PM

Oh, Donna, How could I forget Atticus Finch--the lawyer in To Kill A Mockingbird!

Shane Nov 2nd, 2000 01:32 AM

The "Black Box"as that always survives

:D Nov 2nd, 2000 03:07 AM

Tom Thumb, so he won't wrestle with me for the arm rest ;D

Linda Nov 2nd, 2000 07:41 AM

Inspector Morse as portrayed by the handsome John Thaw

Joan Nov 2nd, 2000 08:36 AM

Cindy, when you get back with Hans Solo I'm going with Indiana Jones. And we're not coming back. (I learned that from Elvira.)

Cindy Nov 2nd, 2000 09:42 AM

Not so fast, Linda. Who says I'm coming back? But if I did, I think my Hans Solo is a bit younger than your Indiana Jones. But whatever you do, don't substitute the Harrison Ford from "Regarding Henry." Yikes!
