France has announced that it will open its borders to all of the EU/EEA as of June 15th. (But it will apply the 15-day quarantine to the UK as long as the UK is doing the same.)
It has additionally been said that it will open its borders to certain other countries as of July 1st. I'm sure they are working "feverishly" (ha ha -- pun) on that list at the moment. |

You got it right, Lois. This fall is going to be murderous here in Europe, because people wanted to go to the beach, cafés, festivals, etc. . Just wait...I predict it's going to be awful. People are already turning their attention to other things - it's going to hit them like a sunami. By September or October.

"It will also be a "tsunami" in the US."
No one -- literally no one, has any idea if it will be worse, much worse, about the same, totally gone, prove to be seasonal, whatever. Why not wait til this Fall/Winter and see what is ACTUALLY happening . . . just a thought. |

You did qualify your post and I should have acknowledged that. Most posters don't -- they just 'know' what the situation will be . . . I'd love to have their crystal balls :)

Australia has extended the travel ban until September 17, and maybe extended after that. Doesn’t matter what countries open up to non Schengen visitors, it is unlikely that Aussies will be visiting Europe this year.
|
I heard on the local (Swiss) radio today that two flights of German tourists will leave for Palma this weekend in an "experimental" programme. They will have a week at a hotel in Mallorca, will not be allowed to leave the hotel grounds and will be monitored. Apparently there was no shortage of applicants for these flights! (as one would imagine). Spanish borders open, for Schengen residents anyway, on Saturday. Swiss borders opened this morning for French, German, Austrian and Italian visitors.
|
Swiss borders are now open for all EU and EFTA citizens, even for those from Lombardy with some 1600 new infections every week.

Seems that Portugal is open to everyone?
|
Not to Spain.

Now Italy has opened its borders to all tourists
Italy opened its borders on Juny 3, domestic tourism is already beginning in the country, and I hope that international tourism will be soon

Also, the 1918 flue pandemic was deadlier in its second wave, precisely because restrictive measures couldn't be reimposed once they were lifted. But yeah, let's wait and see. Now would be the time to strive for maximum containment, which could be done without imposing lockdowns. Universal mask wearing would already bring R0 below 1. |
Oh stop it - how many threads are you trying to kill??
You don't know, I don't know, NOBODY bloody well knows. So give it a rest . . . |

If our governments do that, it's too late. I hope you realize that.

The fact that the Swiss Federal Office for Public Health obviously hates masks is not a proof for the statement that masks are useless.
|
Or not hit them at all. Because it is, after all, the flu.
|
No, but many of the other "experts" say they are useless. They have become a fashion statement to many.
