patti,
just one week left until you leave for paris! i'm so excited for you. i'm excited for me too!!!! 23 days to go. |
abranz - I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering if you were getting as excited as I am! Actually we leave on the 13th, so less than a week now. I pick up my brother from the airport on Thursday (he is going to stay with my mother while we are gone) and then back to the airport for us on Friday. I have been checking the 10 day Paris forecast. So far it looks to be partly cloudy and around 50. That would be perfect for sightseeing.

I am getting so antsy I can't stand it! I just want to be in Paris, now. I checked the weather and so far it looks like it is going to be in the 50's which will be balmy considering what we have had here. Going to have a storm tomorrow, but by Friday the weather should clear. Again, thanks for all of your help. Patti

Topped for Becca. Happy Travels!

guenmai - we have arrived in Paris! We took a taxi from the airport (long story) and the taxi driver told us we were in one of the best areas to stay! My thought was - thank you guenmai! We just took a short nap and are out to investigate.

looking forward to ur trip report...im also counting down to June for Paris/Nice! |
I'm glad you two arrived safely! Smiles. And I know you'll have a f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s time! Just rest up, don't over plan, and take it easy and ABSORB it all.
And have some baked goods at the bakery on rue de Buci, next to the deli-looking place and across from the flower shop. I've gotten my baked goods from there since the early 80s. I think the name changed some decades ago, but the quality is the same. Have some croissants, but buy them in the morning. Croissants are to be eaten in the morning. The Hotel de Seine used to get all of its breakfast baked goods from that bakery as years ago breakfast was included in the price of a hotel room in Paris. By the way, I've been kind of helping out some other folks with an apartment. They've chosen either the 3rd or the 6th to stay in and will be renting through homeaway.com. Well, yesterday, I was curiously looking at that website and found the perfect apartment(#226061) for me for 2010, as I already have an apartment for my trip in three weeks. I couldn't believe it when I read the address....54 rue de Seine! I stayed at 52 rue de Seine (Hotel de Seine) annually from 1981-1990 and then at 66, rue de Seine (Welcome Hotel) up until around 2000 before I moved to Hotel le Clement on the rue Clement. Hotel de Seine got renovated in 1990/1991 and afterwards the price really hiked up. Thus I moved, a few steps down the street, to the Welcome Hotel (same owner) where it was much cheaper. The manager of the Hotel de Seine was a good friend of mine and quit/retired after the renovation and moved me into the Welcome. He was very sad that the regular guests, of many decades, wouldn't be back because of the price hike. He'd managed the hotel from 1955-1991. Apparently, that apartment at 52 rue de Seine, has just been renovated and I think is new on the market. It's $1,500 a week. I've always wanted an apartment on that block, near the Hotel de Seine. Keep that one in mind too for your "future" trips to Paris. Smiles. There are always return trips to Paris! I keep a list of different agencies, apartments, and hotels in case I can't get my first choice. Happy Travels! |
Correction, "Apparently that apartment at 54 rue de Seine....". Happy Travels!

Oh my gosh - DH just went out and got croissants from the bakery guenmai mentioned. So GOOOOOOD. Best I hav ever tasted in my life. Had another lemony pastry - good does not describe it! Heading out to St Sulpice and then going to see the Eifel Tower - sunny out there and a good photography day!
|
Good for you! Glad you're having such a great time. Eat..eat...eat..and walk...walk...walk...so the airline doesn't charge you for overweight on your way home.
Oh, yesterday, the owner of the rue de Seine apartment e-mailed me again and said that I can go by her apartment when I get there in a few weeks and see it. She seems really nice. One of her relatives will be using it part of the same week that I'll be there. So, I can meet the relative and see the apartment, too. Keep having a great trip! Happy Travels! |
And don't forget to go to Poilane bakery on the rue Cherche Midi in the 6th, bordering the 7th...a MUST...to have one or two of those apple pastries! Happy Travels!
|
guenmai we are using your directions like a Bible! We did the bus 63 one getting off at the Trocedero, etc. My feet are little stubbs tonight. But what a wonderful day. Bright and sunny all day. Things are starting to bloom and there are some flowers. Getting ready to go back out - - - -

Great! Happy Travels!

MAde it to the Poilane Bakery today. The apple pies/turnovers - light and flaky - my gosh, delicious! Saw the Mona Lisa today. I am still in awe of seeing her. No line to speak up, walked right up to the rope and took her picture. I am flabbergasted that you are allowed to take photos in museums and churches here. We went to St Chappele and went upstairs to see the stained glass and were able to take photos there as well. COuldn't talk, but could flash!
|
Glad you made it to Poilane. I can taste the apple pastries as I read. And good you got to see Mona without the tons of folks. That's the advantage of traveling in March. In the summer it's a madhouse which is one reason why I quit going in the summer and switched to March and April although April can be busy. Keep having a great time. Looking forward to the next report! Happy Travels!

d'Orsay today. The line was fairly long there, but since the weather was so gorgeous it did not matter. We also went to the Luxembourg gardens - what a paradise inside a big city. Flowers are blooking and trees are in blossom. Had another croissant this morning and going out fro gelatto after dinner. Lemon pastries this morning as well. I have not had anything to eat yet that I didn't like. We ate at a little boat on the Seine at lunch bu the pedestrian walkway. That was fun. I am keeping track of the names of all the restaurants etc for my formal trip report when I get back. Later - - -

Great! I love the D'Orsay and its always wonderful to stroll through the Luxembourg Gardens. Happy Travels!

yellowrose, I just read this post and was pleasantly surprised to find you're posting from Paris. I am glad to know you're having good weather and seeing some budding. My hope is that we'll see lots of blooms in a few weeks. Happy Travels. Enjoy. Enjoy.
