Where to stay in Mykonos
We plan to visit Mykonos for 4 days in mid June 2009. We would like to stay somewhere close to Mykonos town. It would be nice to have a pool available and a pretty view.
Can you suggest such a place for 100 Euro or less for a double room? How about Hotel Tagoo? Does anyone have experience with this hotel? Thank you for your help! Laurie |
I stayed at the Hotel Rochari in May (80 euros/double) and it has a great pool and a great view and a great staff. It's at the top of Mykonos town so the view from our (huge) balcony was over the whole town down to the harbor.

Hotel Tagoo looks nice, I have kept it on my favorites for years,, but, it is not right in town, so unless you get a car you will be walking in and out at night, and my experience is the roads are not lit..
Most hotels in that price range are not going to have a pool, but who needs one ,, you are in MYKONOS!! Get on a bus and get to a beach! |
Hi,
I also vote for the Hotel Rochari. It has been a few years since I was there, but I enjoyed the owners and the location and the hotel. Yipper |
Thank you for your replies. Hotel Tagoo ways they are a 15 minute walk from town and they do have a pool.
The Argo Hotel looks nice too, for 100 euros. I can't tell what the location is like though. here is the website: http://www.argo-mykonos.gr/ I looked at website of the Hotel Rochari and it looks very nice. It would cost 125 Euro per night for a double. I would like to be in location away from all the noise and partying but close enough to walk to town. And it would be nice to have a pool available. Thanks again for your help! Laurie |
We stayed at Pelican Bay Art Hotel. Absolutely loved it. Lots of restaurants in Platios Galos and a short trip to town or back in a cab. It was our favorite place in Greece. Great walking to along the beaches and between.

According to the website of the Argo Hotel:
It is located 100m from the beach of Platis Gialos, on the south side of Mykonos Island, 4 km from Chora (Town). So there is your answer. It's not in Mykonos town. |
|
Here's another vote for the Rochari.
Superb location, great views and a wonderful staff. If you do decide to book, please request a sea view room on level one or level three. (They have four rooms, in the family's original house which is attached to the hotel, that face the road - these are larger but will have some traffic noise). Bill |
My husband and I stayed at the Princess Mykonos last May. It was
wonderful, has a wonderful Italian restaurant they even baked us an anniversary cake. Beautiful pool and quiet, across the street from an interesting villa, that has security guards all over. |
Thank you for all the information about the Rochari. We are considering it but it is more than I had wanted to pay per night.
I cannot seem to find where the Princess Mykonos is located. It looks nice from the website, but is it located near Mykonos town? Thank you Cheryl for pointing out that the Argo hotel is not located near Mykonos old town. Laurie |
Princess Mykonos is in Agios Stefanos, 3,4 km North of Chora.

Thanks for the information, Gaspard.
That sounds like it is too far away from the old town for us. Do you know of any inexpensive places to stay that are within short walking distance to the old town? Thanks, Laurie |
I would go to the Hotel Elena. They have no pool, but the pool is all around Mykonos. Hotel Elena is one of the oldest hotels in Mykonos, the neighbour is hotel Rochari. Hotel Elena belongs to ... Elena, a woman with an assured sense of style and hospitality. If you ask you can use the pool of their hotel in Aghios Ioannis (3-4 km from Mykonos town). BTW, Hotel Rochari has a second hotel in town called Little Rochari, it is less expensive than Rochari.

Thank you, Gaspard. What do you think of Hotel Tagoo's location.

Hi Laurie
We stayed a few years ago at Hotel Carbonaki. I remember walking along a beautiful lane from it to the Hotel Gaspard mentions. They are close together and the location is great. The Carbonaki is in town but located on a very quiet little street only a few minutes from the restaurants and shops etc. It has a small pool but doesnt have sea views. The family that run the hotel were so kind and friendly to us. Here is the link: http://www.carbonaki.gr/ This years rates are on the accommodation page and are within your budget. Milley |
Check out Vencia. Great pool, comfortable rooms and quick walk into Mykonos Town.
We stayed there this summer and LOVED it. |
Thanks Scottsara,
The Vencia looks very nice! We have already booked a room with Hotel Tagoo for 100 Euro per night for our stay in Mykonos in June 2009. It gets excellent reviews on Trip Advisor so I hope it will work out well for us. I don't know much about the Tagoo area, so if anyone knows more about this hotel and the Tagoo area, please inform me. Thanks again for all your help! Laurie |
Hi All,
My fiance and I are wanting to plan a trip to Mykonos for our honeymoon the first week in May. Does anyone know what the weather is like this time of year? Warm enough to sunbathe and hit the beaches and pool? I noticed that weather.com had it at around 60 degrees, which is still a little chilly. Any recommondations would be greatly appreciated! |
I was in Mykonos in mid-May of 2008, and it was definitely too chilly for the beach or the pool. Sunny during the day and sort of warm but not warm enough for the beach imho - at night it was quite windy and chilly, and it rained one night. (Otoh, it was quite hot in Santorini just one week later and warm enough for the pool, so maybe it's luck.)
|
I didn't stay at Rochari, but we stopped by there and loved it. Close to town, a beautiful view at sunset, great pool and very reasonable. I tried to book here, but it was full when I made my reservation. We stayed at Hotel Harmony - it was a nice hotel, but in my view overpriced and not as nice as Rochari...I've heard good things about Vencia as well.

Hi maurirazz,
Weather in early May is unpredictable, but it should be warm enough for sunbathing around the pool and on sheltered beaches. Water will still be cool, though. Temperatures are most likely to reach the high 60s F during the day, but you will need a jacket in the evenings. To see actual temperatures on Mykonos in early May over the last several years, go to http://tinyurl.com/9fylnr Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding! :-) |
We are planning to stay in Mykonos for 2 nights in Oct 2009. What area would you recommend? In the town or within walking distance of the town? On the beach? Does Mykonos have villas that would accomodate 4 couples or would a hotel be our best bet? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
|
Hi sharoncato,
Every island, including Mykonos, has villas, but they are usually located outside of town, and you would need transportation to get you back and forth. One of the pleasures of Mykonos is walking around chora, getting lost in the maze of passageways, then finding your way again. I would opt for a hotel in Mykonos Town, where all the shops, reataurants, etc are within walking distance. Several have already been mentioned in this thread. |
Hey Laurie,
We will be at Hotel Tagoo on 12 June for four nights, when are you there? Might have a drink next to the pool. |
Hi Toni,
It doesn't look like our paths will cross. We will be at the Tagoo on June 15-17th. Have you ever stayed here before? Fodors people don't seem to know much about it, but is get's great reviews on TripAdvisor. Have a great time! Laurie |
laurie,
were you able to book the Tagoo from the hotel's website? i couldn't find an option on their website to make a reservation. amit |
Hi Pow,
Yes,I contacted them by email. Here is the contact page on their website: http://www.hoteltagoo.gr/index.php?ID=hotel_contact.php Enjoy! |
You can also book through this website, you can see the prices without making a request for a room so I think it's better.

laurie,
i contacted them but they are booked. we are now looking at either rochari, pelican bay or mykonian ambassador----any recommendations? Jules, thanks for the link---i believe Cavo-Tagoo and Tagoo are different hotels, i got myself confused too. |
Hi Amit,
Yes, the Cavo Tagoo and the Tagoo are different hotels. The Cavo Tagoo is very expensive. The Rochari hotel was recommended to me several times when I was searching for a hotel in Mykonos. Good Luck and Enjoy! |
