Where to go for my birthday dinner in Paris??
 

Hej,

I'm looking for a nice restaurant in Paris where I can have my birthday dinner together with my fiance.

What I like:
Vegetables (I would love to eat artichokes in Paris)
fusion food
fancy salads
Italian food
nice atmosphere
not to big
not formal

What I don't like:
foie gras
frog legs
lamb
red meat in general
to pay more than 50 Euro per menue

Do you have any recommendations so that I can enjoy my birthday dinner on Friday?? We'll stay in the 6. arrondissement, but the restaurant doesn't have to be right there :-)

One of my favorite restaurants in Paris is Lei, a very attractive modern Italian restaurant in the 7th arrond. You can see pictures of the dining room and check the menu at:

The service there is very good--professional and welcoming. I had the vegetable starter (excellent) followed by the tagliata (also excellent, but you're not a red meat eater), very good Tuscan wine (by the glass, you don't have to order a bottle to get good wine), dessert, and coffee. Tell them it's your birthday and request a table by the window for people watching.
The reservethebest.com website is quite helpful. We've used them to pick out some restaurants for our upcoming 4 day week-end in Paris. You can see pictures of the restaurants and peruse the menus (with prices).

You can find good gastronomic restaurants almost in every 4 star chain hotel in paris, some of them are inspired or supervised by Alain Ducasse, a very very very good chef.

I second Spoon Food and Wine as a great choice for what you want, although might be a bit more than what you want to spend. Also check out Maceo. Excellent food and many vegetarian choices

Spoon is the opposite of formal. It is quite casual

A place we found a while back and have returned to since is Le Cosi, 9 rue Cujas in the 5th, phone 01 43 29 20 20. Closest metro is Cluny-La-Sorbonne; stroll down Blvd Saint-Michel and turn left onto rue Cujas. It sits on a nice corner location near the Pantheon but out of the commerical crush, and a real find for foodies. Not large but certainly not cramped, the service is excellent and proper but nowhre near stiff and formal. The menu is Corsican, a type of Italian not always easy to find.
