where shall i go next to be in awe?
When travelling i do like going to museums and churches but my favorite is going for natural scenary that makes me feel like i am in another world. So far the places i most enjoyed are- 1-zermatt (switzerland)
2- Pebble beach(CA)
3- vancouver
4- interlaken (swiss)
5- Aspen (Colorado)

where shall i go next?

Since you have seen the Berner Oberland, let me suggest these:
1.The Lakes & Dolomites of Italy
2.Santorini
3.The Salzkammergaut region of Austria

Good luck !
|
GREECE!!!!
|
The Val de Aosta in France!
|
The Val de Aosta in Italy.
|
Sorry for the double post. The Val de aosta is actually in Italy, but isn`t far from the French border. Scenery is great, and there are lots of old roman ruins. When we went they were having some sort of ceremony for the cows! They were wearing bonnets!
|
The mesa area inhabited by the Acoma Indians near Albuquerque, New Mexico. A mystical experience.
|
Gorde du Verdon and Les Baux, in France.
|
typo==GorGe du Verdon. Altho perched village of Gordes is spectacular, too!
|
1- Rio de Janeiro (or any place in Brazil)

I have only been there on a lay over. Iceland is definately like being in another world. Coming in for a landing it almost looks like another world with steam coming from the ground. I have researched Iceland in hopes that it will be an up comming trip. With hot springs, volcanos and some of the greenest (The whole Iceland, Greenland thing is misleading) areas in the world Iceland certainly seems one of the most beautiful destinations for natural scenary. Would suggest the summer months though. That is unless you would like to stay in a hotel made totally of ice.

"where shall i go next to be in awe"

Awe, Greenland
|
The Lake Baikal region of Siberia, centered on the largest source of fresh water in the world. This region is to Russians what the Grand Canyon is to Americans; add the ecological uniqueness of the Galapagos Islands and you have one of the worlds natural wonders.

For some more information go to

http://whc.unesco.org/sites/754.htm
|
Dream:
Absolutely loved Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. As you round the hotel, the lake, mountains, and glacial run off are spectular any time of the year - Azure Blue, breathtaking. Matter of fact, the Canadian Rockies from Banff to Jasper are worth a look IMHO.
|
I am writing this from the Monterey Peninsula so agree with your assesment of Pebble Beach and this area. Great spot to live!

As for your next trip, try Northern Italy as suggested by Bob the Navigator. Beautiful area to visit.

Any place in Bavaria is great. Berchtesgaden/Salzburg area or Garmisch/Oberammergau.

We just finished a tour on the Yangtzee River in China. For unique and fun to visit that area also hard to beat. The Chinese love tourists and we were treated great at every stop.

Just travel!
|
the village of Interlaken in switzerland. It was circled by moutains. AMAZING!
|
Definately I would recommend Turkey, so much variety to see. Cappadocia will blow you away, Ephesis amazing, ruins around every corner, delightful beach areas like Olympus and so much more. Bus services are excellent and people friendly.
|
ICELAND...I have been to 52 countries & Islands, ahhhh..but Iceland makes me feel that I am in another world
|
How about Awe, Kentucky.
Or Loch Awe, Scotland.
|
Bob the Nav. - Hate to be so ignorant, but where is the Salzkammergaut region of Austria? Near Salzburg? How far North,S,W, and East does the region extend?

Thanks in advance.
|
Map of Salzkammergut and more info here:
http://www.salzkammergut.co.at/english/plan.htm

my favorites places in Greece !
1-Meteora
2-Patmos
3-Santorini
|
Just returned from Peru and was completely in awe! Make sure to go to the northern Amazon region and stay in a jungle lodge. What an experience!!!!
|
The Dordogne

The Italian lakes

The Atlas Mountains (Morocco)

The Gorges du Tarn and the Cévennes
|
NORWAY! Go to the Fjords, you will be in AWE!
|
Great question!! I would have to say Murren, Switzerland (which is in the Bernese Oberland)is first.
Second would be Davos/Klosters Switzerland
Jackson, Wyoming USA (Hiking in the Grand Teton Range/Yellowstone National Park)
Venice, Italy (A city built on water, huh?)
Monterrey Bay/Carmel Coast, California USA
|
1. Prague
2. Vienna

Both are amazing medievil cities with wonderful museums and churches and scenery. Plus they have the nice modern touches too.
|
Venice - a completely different city. Amazing, and still lived in. May be man-made, but still a wonder to see.

Capri - As much vertical as horizontal. How did the Roman Emperors get to a villa (Jovis) way the heck up there? (Most likely they rode donkeys or were carried by slaves). Ride the chairlift up the other mountain. Ride the minibus down the side of a cliff if you dare!
|
I would suggest

-Nepal
-machu pichu, Peru
-Petra, Jorden
=Ankor wat. Cambodia

|
Angkor Wat, Cambodia
|
My experience in Europe is limited, but I would also agree that the Salzkammergut region in Austria (just southeast of Salzburg) is amazing - a wonderful mixture of lakes and mountains. Anywhere you go is beauttiful, but the south end of the Hallstatsee, at Hallstat, is pretty darn incredible - beautiful scenery, unbelievably quaint and historic village - hard to ask for more.

In the US, places I have personally been that I was amazed by are:
Bryce Canyon
Zion Canyon
The Grand Canyon (but I didn't really have to tell you that, did I?)
The Columbia River Gorge
The narrow guage train ride from Durango to Silverton, Co is wonderful
Mesa Verde
Acadia NationalPark

There are lots of other places I have in mind that I'd love to go to, but these are the only ones that I can personally vouch for.
|
Turkey-you can go from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul to the amazing natural rock formations in Cappadocia (one of the Star Wars movies was filmed there so I guess that would meet your another world requirement!) to a seaside resort to the most fabulous ruins at Ephesus all in the same trip.

And although it's not in Europe, New Zealand has amazing natural beauty.
|

In the U.S.

1. Big Sur Coast, CA
2. Grand Tetons, WY
3. Yosemite National Park, CA
4. San Juan Islands, WA

In Europe:

1. Sardinia, Italy
2. The Dolomites, Italy
3. The Pyrenees, Spain and France
4. Oslo to Bergen and "Norway in a
Nutshell"
|
I have two suggestions.
1. Der Grossglockner in Austria.
2. Waterfall Valley via the Iceline Train in Yoho National Park in Canada.
For this one you probably will need to camp overnight, or stay at Twin Falls Chalet.
