An amazing thread! Raised in Orange County, CA. Lived in Colorado Springs, CO 8 yrs. Now happily living in wonderful Los Osos, CA.
I spent 1 year traveling the US to take in the diversity of the people and regions. An amazing country, but my heart will always be in the west, from the Rockies to the rugged coast. Have traveled to various points in Canada, Central America, Europe, New Zealand and loved it all. Still so much to see..... |
Born in Brooklyn, NY but have lived for more than 1/2 my life in NJ. Hope to retire (soon!) to Phoenix, AZ.
|
I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. I am Cherokee Indian, German and Irish.
I've traveled to Peru, Egypt and France. |
I was born in Belarus. Later in life moved to San Francisco, California (with travels "in between" of course!). Now, can somebody help me count the miles between those 2 places? Or kilometers :)
|
Born in India - lived in several cities there before moving to Houston TX, then onto the UK and now back to Dallas, TX.
Love travellin - love this board |
Have lived most of my life in Newton, MA except college in Madison, WI and graduate school in Buffalo. Love Boston, but love travelling! Have become addicted to this website. It's been so helpful!
|
Who else lives in Maine?
|
I visit there often, does that count? I'm in Boston(Cambridge) BUT where are you???
|
Born in Havre de Grace Maryland
Lived in: Richmond, Vermont Merced, California Mossy Rock, Washington Loveland, Colorado Lewiston, Idaho Minnie Ha Ha Springs, West Virginia (no, I'm not joking) Dover, Tennessee and finally Columbia, South Carolina I was a "construction brat" if you will, as my father worked on dams and nuclear plants and we landed here. Oh yes indeed, I do believe it gave me the wanderlust! Go should be my middle name. Have travelled frequently, but mostly in the States and surrounding areas. Like cruising but don't love it, as I like to spend more time "exploring" and I find I don't get to do that with such short stops. But hey, its a "go"! My first european trip is in 10 days to Ireland and I'm chomping at the bit! Great old post! |
Canuck, through and through - born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and now living in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia.
|
FainaAgain, according to webflyer.com it is only 5860 miles (9440 kilometers) from Minsk (MSQ) to San Francisco (SFO). Must seem a lot farther, though, huh? I live in McLean VA, USA, but I am from West Mifflin, PA (home of Kennywood, in the Pittsburgh area). |
topping for newbies on US Fodors Family.
|
I was born in Chicago, moved to Atlanta for college, Philadelphia for graduate school, and then back to Atlanta, where I reside.
|
Thanks cigalechanta!

I've lived in Canberra, Australia's national capital for 20 years. I was born near Sydney, and lived there and in Adelaide. I try to make myself useful on the Australia/Pacific and Asia forums, started lurking here in preparation for a long-planned (and hopefully long) visit to Italy and France and was immediately seduced by the sparkling wit and repartee I found. Can't resist a good argument, either.

Born in Los Angeles in mid 40's. Lived in West LA until early 70's. Any Palms Theatre people out there? -- I worked there for many years!!
Then moved to Sonoma County, California. Since '75 I live in Sebastopol, Sonoma County, California. Thanks for the great question! |
Born in Philly. Moved to Athens, Greece, at age four. Then to San Salvador, El Salvador, at age eight. Next, to Den Haag, Netherlands, at age twelve.
For six months between each of these overseas postings, we lived in the Washington, D.C. area. Returned to the States permanently at age fifteen. Got my university degree in Miami, lived on an island in the Florida Keys for three years, then worked in law enforcement in Ft. Lauderdale for a few more years. Then, one long winter into late Spring, criss-crossed the USA as a passenger in an 18 wheeler. Am now a social worker living in a college town in North Central Florida. Places I've visited: numerous cities in Germany and the Netherlands, Brussels, Istanbul, Paris, Pisa, several towns in Guatemala, Panama Canal Zone. Haven't been to Africa or Asia, but closest friend is Japanese, so her home town of Yokohama's always a possibility. Sounds like a lot, but when stuff just comes along day by day in your life, that's all it is: your everyday life. |
Since this thread began, I wonder how many of us have moved somewhere else.. this year, I moved from NYC to Florida.
Where will I go next ~ |
That is impressive. Others, like me never get to leave their town due to finances, inertia, or family obligations until a later age.
|
Cigalechanta/mimi taylor, This is a fun thread. I had no idea Fodorites were such a diverse group.

Amazing thread! Trish |
Ah, but cigalechanta, it's different as an adult. You appreciate travel so much more! You might not have at a younger age.
When I was a kid, every time my parents mentioned another long car trip to Paris to visit friends, or monthly plane ride to Panama to go (groan!) grocery shopping AGAIN, or another train ride to anywhere, they literally had to drag me away from my bedroom and books! I pouted all the way and pinched my younger brother from one border to the next. Bet no one does that to you when you're traveling now. |
Wow this thing is huge!
I was raised in Memphis, TN. Met my military husband in Grand Forks, ND while visiting a childhood friend. We are now in Great Falls, MT and I can't wait to leave. I love small-town cities and would love to live in Denver. |
I never know how to respond when people ask me where I am from...
I was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Toronto, Canada. Went to college in Eugene, Oregon (Go Ducks!). Now working in the San Francisco Bay Area (and busily planning my trip to France/Switzerland/Italy next month). Will be moving to Seattle, WA in September for grad school. Pondering where I will be two years from now... |

Mimi,
I grew up(partly, still waiting)in Floral Park, LINY. Went to the Fashion Institute of Technology, then to Chicago, onward to San Francisco (SF State), then to Billings, off to Seattle (Woodinville), then escaped to Tequesta, Florida. I guess most of us don't sit still but also note that we are readers, lovers of nature, and enjoy music. I get along well with optomists. Ciao. |
Very cool to read these posts. I wonder how many of us have crossed paths with each other at some points in our lives?
Born: NYC and lived in Greenwhich Village. Still have family in the area. High School Years: Sheffield, MA and Ridgefield, Ct. Oh, and a few months on a Kibbutz in Isreal. An adventure I think about throughout my life. After High School: Greater Daytona Beach Area, FL. Still here. Did spend 6 months in Aurora, CO. Thankfully I have had the opportunity to do some travelling over the years. It should be a requirement of birth that people have the opportunity to travel and experience other cultures. |
I can't believe I have missed this thread in the last three or four years. I am from the Cherry Capital of the world, Traverse City, Michigan and near the beautiful sugar sand beaches of Lake Michigan.

I forgot to mention that my dad was the youngest of eight children, born in 1910. His mom was a German born in Karlsruhe. He was a '31 NYU grad and mom was a '40 UNC/G grad.
He enlisted in the USA (eventually commissioned in the USAAC) after the obscene event of 7 Dec 1941 and after having been married for 15+ months. He resigned his commission, as did I, as soon as the conflict was resolved. Few US and Euro folks know what we few have contributed to Europe! M |
Born in Greece, live in NYC...Anyone else living in the Big Apple?
|
nana, there are alot of posters here from NYC. Maybe they will see your post and answer. Welcome.
