Hey kids what time is it? <BR> <BR>Oh Poncho... <BR> <BR>And why DID Tonto always go into town for supplies, when he knew he'd get the snot beat out of him?

Erin Jul 8th, 1999 11:15 AM

Does anyone know if the original version of Topper still exists? Everytime I go to videos stores (or it comes on TV) it's the hideous colorized version. Ted Turner is an idiot.

Spanky Jul 8th, 1999 11:15 AM

Did you think Princess Summer Winter Spring Fall was pretty? <BR>

Richard Jul 8th, 1999 11:22 AM

OK, here's the straight skinny. "topper" is a retired actor, whose career consisted of playing the rear end of Hopalong Cassidy's horse, a role at which he still excels.

Kay Jul 8th, 1999 11:24 AM

Geesh, what fun. Talk about free associations.....I loved Topper, Sky King and Fury, too. Had totally forgotten about Fury, so thanks. Anyone remember Winkie Dink and You? <BR> <BR>Now, please someone have the answer to this one...it is driving me crazy....Am I the only one who remembers a radio program in the (early, I think) fifties called the Big John and Sparky Show? The theme song was Teddy Bears Picnic. I can't find anything about that show, even anywhere on the web. Help!

Spanky Jul 8th, 1999 11:28 AM

Sparky! Teddy Bears Picnic...wow. I listened to that radio program every Saturday morning. I lived in Racine Wisconsin at the time and thought the program originated in Chicago.

Kay Jul 8th, 1999 11:32 AM

Thank you, so I am not crazy. I lived in Kansas then so the show must've been syndicated or on a network. I wonder whose, and then I could really track it down.

Richard Jul 8th, 1999 11:34 AM

Thanks, I'll be humming that to myself for the next week, however when YOU go out to the woods today, lookout for the 12th man. Here's one for you: <BR>

Princess SummerFallWinterSpring was certainly more attractive than Sid Melton (ovaltine reference here) <BR> <BR>Do you think Ted Turner will colorize Schindler's List?

martha Jul 8th, 1999 11:38 AM

You can buy tapes of "Big Jon and Sparkie" broadcasts at www.crabapplesound.com. <BR> <BR>Maybe we can all have a sleepover, with haggis-in-a-tube (TM) for breakfast.

Neal Sanders Jul 8th, 1999 11:39 AM

"From out of the blue of the western sky comes... Skyyyyyyy King!" <BR> <BR>"Fury.... the story of a horse... and the boy who loved him (her?)." <BR> <BR>"Plunk you magic twanger, Froggy." (Annakabanna) <BR> <BR>And I never saw Peter Graves put his hands anywhere they shouldn't have been when he was around Penny. <BR> <BR>With that, I'm going to write a business plan. <BR>

Here's one for you: <BR>Summertime, and it's crowded inEurope, I think that I'll stay, right here at home. <BR>I ain't rich, <BR>but my wife is good lookin' <BR>So I think we'll spend Summer <BR>planning for Rome. <BR>

Sorry for all the repeats, I still don't have the mastery of this keyboard. Arrigato.

Helen Jul 8th, 1999 11:46 AM

A doofus, the soi-disant Topper,<BR>Wanted postings in their order proper.<BR>We digressive buffoons,<BR>Started laughing 'bout 'toons,<BR>And a late 50's show with a chopper.

cheryl Jul 8th, 1999 11:46 AM

Thanks, guys. As if it's not bad enough that I'm wasting my time at work reading Fodor's, now I'm humming old TV theme songs as well. For some reason, (free association again), I'm onto the Paladin theme song. That's after many repetitions of the Teddy Bear's Picnic. You all have a lot to answer for, these shows are way before my time!

Kay Jul 8th, 1999 11:48 AM

Martha, thanks, I will hop right over to crabapple.com right now....and Richard, I wonder if anyone besides you and me caught the 12th man refernce, and why! <BR> <BR>I notice a lot of us boomers on this thread. Yeah!

AJ Jul 8th, 1999 11:51 AM

Erin, none of the old Topper movies or TV shows are in VHS production, although there are a few copies being auctioned. I noticed a b/w copy of Cary Grant's original Topper is being auctioned on EBAY as we speak, will close in one hour, current bid $31, hurry! <BR> <BR>Cheryl, "Paladin, Paladin, where do you roam? I'm in the bathroom so leave me alone." My big brother swore to me that those are the real words.
