What's the contemporary dance scene like in London?
Anyone know what companies are doing interesting things nowadays? Modern, hip hop, whatever?
Is Sadler's Wells pretty much the place to go? |
Google the words
Ballet London and read www.ballet.co.uk/magazine/index.htm and www.dancemagazine.com and www.ballet-dance.com and read Reflections on 2008 in London by Lynette Halewood at http://www.ballet.co.uk/magazines/yr...ories_2008.htm |
The short answer is not as good as it used to be when LDCT were around. But never mind.
Yes, Sadlers Wells is the main space for contemporary dance. There is The Place too, and The Barbican Arts Centre also hosts performances. Best time to be in London is probably during Dance Umbrella in the autumn. http://www.danceumbrella.co.uk/festival.html Rambert Dance Company, Phoenix, Arc Dance company amongst others all have websites. They tour as well so if you can't catch them in London you might find they are performing in Manchester, or York, or etc. etc. Cheers. |
Thanks, Dalai. We do hope to see some ballet, too.
afterall, I will check the websites of those companies. Maybe we'll just need to come sometime in the fall. Thanks! |
afterall, really looks like some exciting work on those websites. I had been discouraged by what I was able to find on my own.
Now will need to see what's on when we're there. |
You're very welcome. Here's a couple more:
