P.S. The newest French shop to open on Newbury St in Boston is La Comptoir de Famille.
We have Petite Bateau, Longchamps as well as the top tres cher like Chanel,
Hermés. And that's not all

Just returned from our 1st visit to France and Paris. Didn't get in much shopping but did find that terrific ceramics store on rue Jacob called La Maison Ivre (The Drunk House!) and brought home a beautiful platter for our French country kitchen. Also found placemats at a typical provencal fabric store in Gordes; the store owner was so friendly.

A Chanel jacket at Anna Lowe--a well cut, black, boucle classic. On each of two other trips I found a well-priced well-cut suit. I don't go to Paris without stopping there!

A gold ring - some lady found it on the street just in front of me and said she couldn't wear jewelry and asked if i wanted it for $40 - what a deal!

I found a cute little shop in Latin Quarter, that sells everything related to cats. They had a small cushion of 2 cats in a Parisian apartment with a view to the Eiffel. Normally I wouldn't have bought something this kitchy, but the two cats were the exact coloring of my own two cats, an orange tabby and a fluffy torbie. I just had to get it.

Also, the best thing I bought was a chocolate chaud at Angelina's. I can still taste it in my mind.

nothing too impressive compared to the rest but i got my mom the CUTEST matt ceramic soap dish that is in the shape of an old fashioned tub with claw legs, with old fashioned brass metal faucets and a small towel draped over the edge.

i got it at "the store" people talk about that they canīt resist going into. it has an array of kitchen items from plates to silverware and some are tourist motifs, others for everyday use. quite nice, but canīt remember the name, sorry!

we were walking past it and i recognized the name so we went in.. thanks again to fodors.

Would it be less expensive to buy a lonchamps bag while in Paris or at duty free at airport or in Canada or USA?

beaupeep Feb 10th, 2007 09:21 AM

Depending on whether you hit the soldes (sales) in July and January, you can get great deals on Longchamps bags. I've gotten my three purses, address book, wallet and one backpack all during the sales. The most recent a beautiful red bag two weeks ago in Paris.

No sales time. I will be there between March 20 and 29th.

Where did you find your fabric? This something I want to bring back

Thanks,

Yaya

lmweb - If you see this post, can you let me know where you got your pillow or what brand? Call me crazy, but I want one too! I have an orange tabby and fluffy tortie as well :)

I too, brought back chocolates/hote chocolate from Angelina. Sound like we have similar tastes!

a ring from the Musee des Arts Decoratifs gift shop, Repetto ballet shoes, a set of pencils painted like Ste Chapelle columns, Poulain dark chocolate bars, Avene sunblock, lots of clothes.

Oh oh PalenqueBob - that "finding the ring" is a scam. We've had it tried on us several times. It goes along these lines: A woman passes you, does a double take and appears to pick up a ring from the ground. Asks you if its yours? You say no. She says you can have it as it is your Lucky Day. You demur. She presses it on you saying something like, she doesn't wear jewellery as her religion forbids it, and shows you her bare fingers. Ok you say. Then the sting : it's your lucky day, what about making it my lucky day too? Some money for my lunch etc? It happened in Troyes as well as Paris.

Came across a shop one night selling a clothing range by 'Lucy of Paris'. Bought myself a nice black shirt by 'Lucy', and asked the assistance whether I could buy the hanger also. He didn't charge me extra for it and I took it home to my delighted daughter, Lucy. She's thrilled to have a "Lucy, Paris" hanger in her wardrobe.

Pink and purple sequined Vanessa Bruno tote bag. They were all the rage when I was there last year - seemed every hip Parisian had one, so I splurged...still love carrying it and being reminded of Paris...
