What to wear in Paris

People ask this question fairly often, so I've gone and taken some pictures of what people are wearing in Paris today. Actually, they're all men, but I'll be doing this weekly now, so next week there are sure to be some femmes.

I LOVE this idea! Keep it up! :)

Kwoo Apr 20th, 2012 11:58 AM

I'm going to buy my husband a black and white vertical striped suit for our upcoming trip to Paris this summer!

raincitygirl Apr 20th, 2012 12:09 PM

Love the photos,Phread, also your blog! Have bookmarked it to finish reading later.

latedaytraveler Apr 20th, 2012 12:09 PM

Phread, what fun! Hey, even the French men have a way with scarves, n'est ce pas?

Coquelicot Apr 20th, 2012 12:50 PM

Phread, I've seen your name often on this forum but never knew you write a blog. I took a look and I'm hooked. You have a way with words! Believe me, I don't need one more thing to read on the internet every day, but I can't resist bookmarking yours.

nytraveler Apr 20th, 2012 05:31 PM

I don't see any shorts, tee shirts with silly sayings or giant white clown sneakers - even on the guy in the riding costume. (And maybe he really had been riding.)

As for the b/w striped suit - yes, there are eccentrics everywhere. But stylish eccentrics.

cigalechanta Apr 20th, 2012 05:43 PM

Phread, your blog is great, if you are Sylvia but blogs aren't exceptable except by link here. otherwise all our members would post theirs and that would end things.
I have several friends whose blogs I would love to post.

Dukey1 Apr 20th, 2012 05:52 PM

I don't see any shorts, tee shirts with silly sayings or giant white clown sneakers

That's because it's Paris and all the German tourists had gone home already.

avalon Apr 20th, 2012 11:29 PM

Glad I found your blog and have added it to other OPF blogs I check daily!

sorriso Apr 21st, 2012 07:14 AM

Please keep up with the streets shots, I love to see what people are wearing. We are heading to France this summer and I look forward to spying on les Parisiens as the weather gets warmer, especially on the men--but in only order to help my husband choose just the right thing. :)

paris1953 Apr 21st, 2012 10:51 AM

Leaving on Wednesday for Paris and keeping an eye on the weather and the temperatures. I keep thinking "it's spring" but temps in the 40s and 50s has me wondering. I am debating bringing boots...thought I saw one or two ladies in the background of your photos wearing those. Any advice?

Phread Apr 21st, 2012 09:55 PM

Paris1953 - It is COLD here right now. Keep checking those temps.
Cigale - Of course its me! Bonjour! Duly noted, won't happen again.

Phread Apr 21st, 2012 10:50 PM

Great news Cigale! I checked out the forum guidelines, and your friends can post links to their blogs as long as they are non- commercial. But don't worry about it ending things. you're allowed to post your blog on an other popular travel forum and all it has done so far is enrich the exchange.
Coquelicot - Its new... only been doing it for 3 weeks. Until now I've only written professionally for an online Mag about Paris. But posting a link to that would be against the forum guidelines.
Nytraveler - He had been riding.... his bicycle! He arrived at the café riding it on the very crowded, busy sidewalk.
To the rest of you... glad you enjoyed the Paris moment.

kerouac Apr 22nd, 2012 01:50 AM

Excellent photos, phread, but I'm glad that those outfits are confined to the 6th arrondissement!

AvaC Apr 22nd, 2012 04:09 AM

I love photos of Parisians who are always fashionable. <3 Just love everything about Paris. Great photos

RobynFrance Apr 22nd, 2012 04:39 AM

So much fun--do u have any current women's fashions on the street--we leave in 3 weeks--hoping for way warmer too.

Phread Apr 22nd, 2012 05:00 AM

I'll be putting some girls up there next Friday.

Loved the photos of the Lilacs. I could almost smell them.

Grassshopper Apr 23rd, 2012 12:19 PM

Phread, did Baccys used to be Bistro & Terroir? Was looking at Google Maps to see if I could find it (trip coming in 2 weeks!)and saw Bistro & Terroir there. It looks really good...but maybe it's gone?

Fun blog! I'm green with envy. Need to book a pedi! :-D

Phread Apr 23rd, 2012 12:46 PM

Grasshopper, yes. Bistro & Terroir has been replaced by Bakkys. If you're in the 'hood, Les Garcons is nearby and it is quite fun. Depardieu has a place called Le Bien Nommé that I'd still like to try and Josephine chez Dumonet is still there, still superb.

Grassshopper Apr 23rd, 2012 02:21 PM

Thanks! I'll check them out!

StCirq Apr 23rd, 2012 02:27 PM

Love this blog. Thank you Phread!

scatcat Apr 23rd, 2012 02:52 PM

Loving the blog!

Phread Apr 26th, 2012 05:26 AM

Thanks all. Tomorrow, some women's fashion, focusing on scarves, because it is cold in Paris this spring!

MarySteveChicago Apr 26th, 2012 08:13 AM

Contrary to U.S. tradition, I saw a lot of white pants being worn last year mid May by stylish women. Even white jeans. And a lot of wedge shoes.

Phread Apr 26th, 2012 10:10 AM

Yes, Ines de la Fressange has written a book on Paris chic and she swears by white jeans throughout the year!

Phread Apr 27th, 2012 05:08 AM

Friday@Flore has now been posted for the ladies...

YankyGal Apr 27th, 2012 09:22 AM

So fun to people-watch during my lunch hour. ;-)

Thanks, Phread - love your blog.

Freda_Seddon Apr 28th, 2012 02:56 PM

I'm in Paris right now, was in London last week. It's damp and chilly. Layers, tank top, long sleeve T and knit top and a cardigan under a water proof jacket/coat. Try for silk or microfibre, linen or fine wool, as cotton holds onto the moisture and chills you.
Boots are good because it's raining. So don't forget an umbrella. I found my leather gloves a godsend when traveling this time.

Despite reading all the advice, I packed too much. Guilty of bringing 4 pairs of shoes. Could have managed with two, three would have been perfect. Also, one pair of earrings, watch and and pearls would have been enough. Don't ask!
My pashminas have been worn daily.

Dental floss makes a good laundry line tied between two coat hangers.

At the Opera tonight lots of Little Black dresses and some coloured short dresses or skirt/pants with dressy tops. Some people with jeans, leggings, but they were the vast minority. A group of 19th Century historical re-enactors attended in the most beautiful gowns, men in top hat and tails.

Phread May 2nd, 2012 06:22 AM

The 19th century group sounds fantastic and your dental floss solution made me laugh!
Today, I wrote about the latest 'it' bag. Enjoy!

What a great travel tote! Thanks for your update!

PlumeriaTattoo May 2nd, 2012 05:42 PM

I really like that tote! I hope I can find one while I am there in May. What are the best stores to look for one?

flpab May 2nd, 2012 09:43 PM

My third day here and I have seen everything. I think the men are the most stylish. Dominique, our landlord set the bar high and have yet to see anyone else impress me. She was dressed off the wall and loved her look. All her own with the most beautiful dress/pinafore and striped socks with laced up ankle boots. All different shades of green. It is rainy and cold and have noticed there is no flat ironed hair. All very wild and curly. I have had a horrrible time finding anything made in France. Even the Bourjois makeup is Italy. Funny though, did find barrettes that were made in France by an outdoor vendor 2 for 9 and they have Monet paintings on them.Dressing for raim again today. It held off for our Pere Lacahise walk yesterday.

Phread May 3rd, 2012 06:59 AM

Plumeria, There is a link at the bottom of my post that has the address of one store. Another store is La Central at 29 rue du Four. otherwise, they are everywhere, just look in the windows!

Pepper_von_snoot May 3rd, 2012 07:11 AM

This is really strange, because I posted a photo of the Vanessa Bruno tote, not the colour-block one, but the one with the sequins here years ago.
