What is your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Will be in Rome 3 nights. Need some recs on food. They can be cheap, expensive, hole in the wall, fancy.....all that matters is that the food is awesome. Can't wAit to hear what all of the experienced travelers have to say. This is my first time to Italy. Going end of June.

They have Burger King , KFC and McDonalds. What more do you need?

Jynx:
Just for a lunch on the go,while you visit the market at Campo dei Fiori: buy porchetta panini(pork roasted with herbs)at the market, and finish with some fragole di bosco(best ever). Also have gelato everywhere, but specially at any Blue Ice. |
ok here's my favorite restaurant :
il brillo parlante, near Via del Corso and Piazza del Popolo, at Via della Fontanella 12 Tel : 06 3243334 great food, the place is mostly full with locals, which says a lot... and the best tiramisu that i had in Italy ever !!!!! |
Forgive me for being blunt, but you really should do a search here first before asking people to type, yet again, the answers to the same questions that have been asked many times.
Why not do some reading of other threads and trip reports on the same subject (there are dozens) and then return with specific questions? then we can give you some more specific recommendations. You should probably also note where you are staying in the city and if you are willing to travel for food. |
To start you off, here are a few threads that a simple search turned up:

The Goose just under the train bridge St. Pietro Station, just off the via cavalleggeri and on a short half street between it and the via aurelia. Simple family place if you leave hungry its your own fault. Mostly locals and workmen. NOT the place on the corner that is a tour bus stop.

Thanks everyone! Keep them coming. I will pass on the Burger King though

Another one to add to your list is Ponte e Parrione, just off Piazza Navona. Take the street on the St Agnes in Agony (church) side which runs off the piazza between the church and Tre Scalini r'rant, turn right at first intersection (Irish pub on corner) then P&P comes up on the left, about 50m up. Great food, not expensive and run by a group of friends who enjoy what they do.

sounds good....anymore?

Walk around Travestere - there are so many restaurants - small, large, fancy, simple.
There's a nice restaurant off Piazza Navona - Maccheroni. I recommend reserving a table. We got there early (8pm) when they just opened and we were lucky to get a place. I don't know where you're staying but the hotel clerk also recommended some nice places. |
Taltul,
Maybe I just caught them on an off day, but really did not like Macceroni, which I tried when I was in Rome three weeks ago. Loved the look of the place and the service was good but thought the food was average and salty. Noticed that both the chef (open kitchen) AND the waitress were salting food before serving. Strange. Other people besides yourself recommend it so I might try again. |
To whom it may concern: some of the posters here don't mind answering questions even if there are threads out there - as evidenced by several response posts. Plus there is always the chance a recent traveler has found a new restaurant or had a bad experience at a former favorite. Threads can be helpful but if a question annoys me, I just scroll down for a different one I might want to helpfully respond to. just saying

Here is my trip report from Christmas 2009 to Rome (with photos). It will give you some good restaurant ideas, too.

We love the Alle Delle Fratte on Via Delle Fratte in the trastevere section. Close to the Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere which is fun to stroll around in the evening.

Colline Emiliane
Via Avignonesi 22 (off Off Piazza Barberini) Tullio Via San Nicola da Tolentino, 26 Off Piazza Barberini I haven't eaten here but a lot of people on this site like Cul de Sac Piazza di Pasquino I was in Rome in Oct 2009. |
I second Alle Delle Fratte on Via Delle Fratte in trastevere. It was my favorite. I ate there twice in one week. Food is consistently good.
