My Dad had a lot of luck making friends with English women with gifts of Chocolate, stockings, and cigarettes. Of course, that was in 1944.

hahaha...I actually found some big boxes of Jelly Bellys at TJ Maxx yesterday for $8.99 each. I put them in my cart and then was like, "Is this too strange?" :o) But I think I will get those, or the Yankee Candle, the clam chowder was a good idea too! I love the thought of a cookbook, but my UK pals aren't much for adventurous eating, bangers and mash almost every night. I was thinking maybe some Red Hot too (I always miss my Red Hot and Ranch dressing when I am there, I put both on everything) but they would probably just think I am crazy! :o)

Has this person been to the U.S.? I have a friend that lives in England and when I asked her if there was something she wanted she told me, "Cheez Whiz and Betty Crocker Garlic and Herb Noodles". <BR><BR> I think gift giving is usually a lot simpler than we think.....

We take over nestles chocolate chips and pepperidge farm goldfish. Kids love'em.

You are very right...yes, they have been here (US) a few times, both to New England and FL. Of course when I asked, they said, "Oh, don't get us anything, we need nothing!" I plan to take them to dinner or something (at least) as a courtesy for letting us stay there for a week but wanted to bring them a little cute something for arrival. Cheez Whiz...that is so funny! Yuck! How about some spray cheese? Ha! Hmmm...

I know. I think the last time I TRIED cheez whiz I was 8. (Of course when I was 8 I also thought that was real cheese). The most disgusting part of this is that....(ready for this?)...she likes to put it as topping for lasagna!!!

I don't know if it's true anymore, but I remember hearing someone talk about how expensive cranberry sauce was in England. <BR><BR>He/she was in England for a holiday meal with the in-laws, and served him/herself a normal-American-sized helping of cranberry sauce. Unfortunately, everyone was aghast, because it was so expensive and there was very little left for anyone else.<BR><BR>Can anyone east of the Atlantic say whether cranberry sauce is still expensive? If so, this would be a good "New England" gift. If not, oh well...

Cranberry sauce is not expensive here in the UK now, and is sold by most supermarkets as it has become very popular to eat with turkey. This is quite a recent thing, I think.

I took Oreo cookies to Hungary with me as gifts, everyone was crazy over them! Even the adults! I don't like them, but my brother said they would love them. He was right. I am going back there late May, and guess what? My family already wrote me and asked to bring more with me this time.

We have some friends in Germany who come to visit south Louisiana every 3-4 years. When they come, or when we have visited them in Germany, they want the following things: Ocean Spray CranApple Juice (which can't be found in Germany), ZipLoc bags (which are much more expensive in Germany), and Skittles (for their sons).<BR><BR>The last time they were here, last October, they wanted to go to Wal-Mart. A friend of theirs in Germany had asked them to bring home something that was "typically American," and inexpensive. They chose a plastic pumpkin, the kind children use to go trick-or-treating. My husband and I were amused at how excited they were about this pumpkin!
