Weather in Italy mid-May
Looking to travel to Venice, Florence and Rome around May 20th. What can we expect for weather?

It should be lovely although I was in Venice one May when they had a lot of rain and it was cold. So do pack accordingly. But basically it should be beautiful weather. Have a beautiful trip.

Like loveitaly, we had too much rain that made for an unpleasant trip. the children were difficult because of the weather.

Hi machin, actually that visit in Venice my DH got a bit difficult too, LOL. So I just parked him in a warm and cozy cafe and had them bring him a bottle of good red wine and that took care of that! Can't do that with kids of course.

That's usually the best time of year - after the spring rains, before the summer heat. But weather has been unpredictable in recent years...

HI--we were there--same places--from May 24 to June 4 of 2000 and the weather was hot days w/pleasant evenings and not a drop of rain. I guess from reading the above replies that there is a lot of variability.

On our two trips to Italy we must have been blessed:
Rome: May 14-16, 2001, beautiful weather, 75-80 degrees Venice: May 23-27, 2001 heat wave, reaching the 90's. Ended up at Lido Beach in the afternoon to cool off. Rome: May 3, 2003 passing through on our way to S. Margherita, Ligure. Pleasant and about 75 degrees. S. Margheria May 3 - May 9, 2003(North - Italian Riviera) weather was beautiful hovering around 75 degrees every day. No rain, clear blue skies on both trips. I am keeping my fingers cross for our trip April 2006. |
