As attention seeking behaviour it certainly works. It fact it screams "LOOK AT ME".

I think if you're going to seek such attention, you need to then demonstrate that you are worthy of it, and not just an attention-seeking tosser! (not sure if that expression translates internationally, as it may be in the Australian idiom - if not, please consult Google, since an explanation here may offend!!!)
