alya,
My guess would be "white bread" - Sunbeam if you can get it! |
Somehow I knew the answer would probably be White Bread :-(
Well, I have the Cream Cheese and I have Crushed Pineapple, so I think I'll try it with 7 grain and if it's not too bad I might even splash out on Sunbeam. Wish me luck! BTW - Anytime you want to share your recipe for Peach Cobbler -let me know. |
Ya know, I googled "cream cheese and pineapple sandwich" and came up with some variations that would go well on 7 grain. They added all sorts of other stuff.
Having said that, the Southern version is on soft white bread (or loaf bread as my grandmother always called it) and is just cream cheese instead of mayo, pineapple (my g'ma used sliced) and SOMETIMES a piece of iceberg lettuce. I have a friend at the historical society so I'll try to see what their plans are for the box lunch! |
Ira, I spent an afternoon in Madison in mid-December on the way back from a conference in Athens. It is a charming town, with a dangerous ice cream shop. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful area. For some reason I thought you live in Watkinsville.

What part of GA is Madison in? I'm going to be moving to the state and will have to check it out!
|
Madison is about an hour southeast of Atlanta - on I-20 as you head east toward South Carolina.
It has been called "the town too pretty to burn". Supposedly, Sherman's roommate at West Point was from Madison and he gave orders that it not be burned on his infamous March to the Sea. I'm not sure if that is lore, or true, but it has one of the finest collections of antebellum homes in Georgia. If you go, stop by the Blue Willow restaurant in Social Circle. Also, stop by Covington for more pretty homes. The town may look familiar - it's where the TV show "In the Heat of the Night" and the pilot and first season of "The Dukes of Hazzard" were shot. |
Thanks Starr! Sounds interesting! That will be about three hours from where I'll be, very doable for a weekend!

Hi letsgo,
>..Southern Cross Farms..< A very nice place for a weekend or so. See http://www.southcross.com/ >I'm intrigued by the Cream Cheese and Pineapple Sandwiches....What's the best type of bread to use? < Actually, we go for cream cheese and pimento spread. Any store-bought sliced white bread in a plastic wrapper will do. Allow the sandwiches to sit covered in the fridge overnight, then leave them open on a plate for a few hours for real Sothren flavor. :) Hi kswl, >For some reason I thought you live in Watkinsville. < No, we only visit it for our weekly gelato fix at Il Gelato - yummmmm. Where will you be living, rapunzil? ((I)) |
This being a European forum, how do you get to Madison, GA, from Paris, France?
