Wales this October-help

We will be in UK from October13 for 3 weeks. We have seen much of England before and plan to spend most of our time in Wales. I'd like to know how cold it will be and if there are any castles that its possible to stay in.

Hi Susan,

It shouldn't be TOO cold in October -- probably between 10 and 15 in the daytime. If you're going to be there for 3 weeks do expect some rain at some point! (But you probably knew that!). As for castles, most of them (at least, the most interesting ones) tend to be historic monuments. One place that isn't though is the Ruthin Castle Hotel (www.ruthincastle.co.uk), which you might like to try. And it's in the lovely town of Ruthin, a small market town with many timber-framed buildings dating back to the 13th century (as do parts of the castle). It's a good place for exploring north Wales, actually -- pretty good roads but still a little bit out of the way. Go to www.ruthin.com for more info! (and yes, I am from Ruthin). Oh, and just to confuse matters there's a Ruthin Castle Hotel and a Castle Hotel in Ruthin. The former is a castle, the latter is not!

I second Mel's suggestion re staying at Ruthin Castle - it is lovely and in a marvelous area.

While in Wales do spend some time on the Pembrokeshire coast. It is glorious.

Try Bryn Bras Castle. Nice appartments, grounds and close to most things to do in North Wales.

Thanks. Has anyone stayed at Bryn Bras Castle? Are the appartments as pleasant as the web site makes them?
