That is the saddest part of the whole tale, that I didn't get to go to the gardens!!! I was easily able to resolve this, however, because my boyfriend was not with me so it would have only been half as spectacular. We will definitely go back in spring.
I would not stay in Vernon the next time, but probably just do it as a day trip from Paris. The town is a little too small for my tastes. I would have been much happier getting back to the big city in time for dinner and a moonlit stroll. The train ride to Vernon is only about 45 minutes if you do the express, an hour if you do the commuter.
There is a pizza place just down from the tourism office called Pizzéria Pamukkale, at 50, rue Carnot. A very quaint, cobblestone block is there with a fabulous patisserie, where I tried my first cammelé. At the pizzeria I had the Pizza Normandie with bacon, cheese, onions, and an egg broken over the top. Their pizzas are single-serving but large enough to share with a friend. The crust was thin thin thin -- just the way I love it!
