Venice Vaparetto fees

Last year I spent a week in Venice and purchased a pass for the vaparetto I was noticed the week I was there I was never asked to present the pass to anyone on the vaparetto .Did anyone have the same experience?

In several trips I never saw anyone ask to see the pass, but on one recent trip, when we got on at the first ride from the station, two men hopped on who checked everybody's ticket. And twice more I think it was that week, I had them check passes. I do know from watching them write citations to those who didn't have tickets, that I'd rather be safe than sorry.

We had a 7 day ticket last June and used the vaporetto quite frequently. We were asked to show our tickets at least a half dozen times...

We were in Venice in October 2007 for three nights and were never asked to show our pass.

Hello miaspapa, yes I have been asked to show my ticket a few times. In any case I don't want to be a bad guest in a host country and consequently always pay for public transportation just like I do at home.
