lol, vivi, i'd been to Venice at least 4 times before I went to the glass museum on Murano, and trust me, it'd be pretty far down the things I'd want to see on a first visit, especially one that's only 2 1/2 days long! if you have no particular interest in glass, it's a definite maybe, IMO.
However, your day 1 is now all over the place - the Ca' d'Oro is a long way from the Accademia and San Giorgio - Ca' Rezzonico is a lot closer. Wandering is good - one of the best things to do in Venice! Day 2 is fine, but do try to squeeze in the Scuola di san Rocco if you have time - it's right next door to the Frari. Day 3 - i think that we did something similar and went to the Rialto market early in the morning - if you miss out Murano you should be able to fit in Burano and Torcello, but you could always do Murano on the way back as the boats stop at "Faro". you can walk across the island to the centre, then catch a different boat back to Venice proper. |
I, too, recommend San Giorgio Maggiore.
Also, find a book with some self-guided walks and take your time to soak in the city. SS |
Thank you @annhig for everything so far, I just wanted you to know that you have been such a great help to me! On my itinerary I have all your notes next to each place :) Now where's a good guide book to be bought? Any suggestions?

no probs, vivi. of course when you get there you may decide that I've been talking rubbish and throw all those ideas out of the window!
there are loads of books written about Venice. Venice by Jan Morris is perhaps one to leave before you go. my favourite basic guide book is the Michelin green guide to Italy - that would take you round all of your destinations, and should cover all of the main sights in each place. also it's quite a handy size - long and thin rather than short and fat. however if you wanted more detailed info on art, the Blue guide is the one to go for. the problem with individual city guides is that they are quite heavy and you are not spending that long in any one place. However if you wanted one especially for Venice, I would recommend Venice for Pleasure by JG Links. you could get it from a library and look at it in advance, perhaps photocopying a route or two that appealed to you. Alternatively you might like your own copy - it's a fascinating read. Buon viaggio! |
