Mike,

I stayed at the Europa & Regina in Nov. and they have their own shuttle boat from the airport to the hotel. I reserved a space on it in advance (called/faxed the hotel). At the airport, once you come through baggage, you'll see a desk/booth with "Luxury Collection" sign - that's where you need to go. The boat was there when I arrived and about 5 other people had also made reservations on it. The charge appeared on my room bill, so no need to have cash on hand for that. As I remember, it was about US$50, which seemed reasonable to me, compared to other water taxis. If you don't have much luggage, you may be able to do a vaporetto (don't know if they service the airport), but the closest stop to the Europa & Regina would be San Marco, so you'd have to find the hotel yourself, carrying all your stuff (and there's a bridge involved.) So, vaporetto is probably not a good option for this part of the trip.

First, have a large martini at Harry's Place at the Grand Canal. Best martini I ever had. Iced glass. Delicious drink. I don't know why. And don't go to the glass factories at Murano. Women feel a need to go but they are all half-crazy, my wife included. The glass factories are a big bore.
