Venice: Is A/C needed in June?
 

I am looking at two apartments to rent for a few days in June? One has A/C and the other does not. This will be my third trip to Venice but I've only been in winter and spring (we slept just fine with our windows open in the spring). We are from Texas and so are used to really hot weather in June where AC is a must. Thanks for you help on this.

Hi granbury, whether a/c will be needed in June or not is a guess as of course it depends on the weather.

I suggest though that if you want a/c be sure to check into the details regarding the apartment that has a/c. It might not have the type of a/c you are use to. And it may not be in every room. For example family members rented a villa in Tuscany this summer for 3 weeks. It was advertised as having a/c. The a/c was a window unit which was only in the living room. They finally got the owners/managers to bring in a fan for each of the 3 bedrooms. Also make sure that you will be able to operate the a/c when you are there as usually there is a time period when a/c will be opertable. Best regards.

The answer is quite easy, if you're american, you'll need A/C whereever and whenever you go :D

Thanks LoveItaly for your response. We live in a climate where it is common to have 40+ days of 100+ weather. Anything under 90 degrees is pleasant to us. I don't particularly like AC but the couple traveling with us likes it. Thanks for the tip about checking on what rooms have the AC. I went back and looked at the pictures and I'm betting that only one room has the AC. I've emailed for more info.

Hi granbury, you are sure welcome. I too live where we get a lot of weather in the triple digits but as much as I don't like a/c there sure are nights where it is wonderful to have it. Good wishes finding the right apartment and have a wonderful time in Venice.

I'm the opposite to you, i've only ever been in Venice in Summer and Autumn, and I found it uncomfortable to sleep on most nights, i wouldnt return without staying somewhere with A/C.

I too live in Texas and that makes it even more reason to me to have a/c. I'm simply accustomed to having it! As soon as it reaches 70 degrees, my family turns on the a/c unit!

So, my vote would be for having a/c simply because I'm not used to being without it!

I was in Venice one July and it was quite warm and humid. Not unbearable as I live in the tropics year round, but I think I would have been pretty miserable without A/C in our apartment at night. I agree that if you are used to A/C at home, you will want it in Venice at least to sleep.

We were in Venice this past June and it was very hot (highs of 90 and above). I don't tend to overdo the airconditioning, but it would have been very difficult to sleep at night without it. When we stayed in Lake Garda just prior to arriving in Venice, we did not have AC, but we could cool off in the pool or lake and had more of a breeze. It was still very hot, but not like being in a city in a heatwave. We were very glad to have AC.

I agree with moldyhotelsaregross, those of us who live in the hottest climates are the most accustomed to a/c and it's difficult to live without it.

PS to moldyholtels, Not to hijack this thread, but moldy, I didn't mean to leave the GTG without saying goodbye to you. I thought you were right behind us when rkkwan and I headed for the restrooms, but then I came out and you were gone. I felt bad for not telling you I enjoyed meeting you, because I did. :-)

Yes, absolutely.

You'll need AC. Remember, windows in Venice have NO SCREENS. Can you imagine what the mosquito population is like in a water town!

Ira got it right - it's the humidity that makes it most uncomfortabel when the temps go up. After all, Venice is a gorgeous, historic, magical swamp, but still a swamp.

Thanks for all the input. I am definately looking for apartment with AC. I found a wonderful 2 br 2 bath apt. in Dorsoduro that I really had my heart set on, but it doesn't have AC. Anyone know of a good 2-2 with AC for 300 euro?

A. Find out if it has fans.

B. Stay up late until the room cools.

I have rented apartments twice for a week each -- both in June. One had AC, one didn't. I'd never consider one again without. We literally wouldn't return to the place in the afternoon because we knew how intolerably hot it would be. It tended to cool off a bit in the evening with all the windows open, but we still sweated the sheets all night. The other one was a dream -- so pleasant and comfortable.
