Book Chick gave some good advice. I also adore Laconda Sturion. It is a great hotel. One thing to be aware of is no lift and a long climb up the stairs, so if you can't handle that it might not be good. But it is a wonderful hotel.

Was in Venice last week and stayed at the Hotel Galleria next to the Accademia Bridge on the Grand Canal. The room was 135 Euro with a small breakfast served in the room. The view from our room was worth the stay and a convenient location for exploring. Hotel staff was also helpful.

Locando Leon Bianco is great and in that range. Lovely, small hotel on the Grand Canal.
