eks,
I've not flown business on Iberia from JFK but I have from Dallas. I've also flown AA in business from Dallas many times, and I do prefer Iberia, if that helps.

Since your time is short, I would probably skip Alicante and add those nights to Madrid or Valencia. I would drop the rental car off at the Valencia airport.

Glad you were finally able to purchase your IRYO tickets. Yes, you do have 4 Haizea food options. We've had the salmon platter and the carrilleras. Both better than Renfe fare, imo.

Thanks again, Maribel!

I will skip Alicante.

Just found this, but there's nothing you don't know about here, and I don't know how reliable their reviews are, in any case. I already booked two dinners at EL BARET.

Actually their reviews are fairly reliable but there have been lots of reviews/articles/online comments over the years in Spanish about el Baret. It’s one of those pilgrimage sites for Spain food lovers like our Antonio, la Castillería, Campero, Mannix and el Capricho that I recommended. Actually I think it's nice that you have 2 dinners so as to be able to try more of his dishes. And the family is lovely. Hope you enjoy it!

May I suggest Restaurant Blanqueries in Valencia? They don't have a Michelin star, but a Michelin Bib Gourmand label. We had an excellent lunch there.

I want to thank the OP and all the contributors to this thread.
We will be in the area at the same time, staying in the same Parador, a week in Valencia and three night in Javea.

The restaurant recommendations alone will make a hero in my wife's eyes. ( already booked two dinners at El Baret)

Maribel Oct 4th, 2024 05:51 AM

That's great that you were able to book twice at El Baret de Miquel because in the summer it's almost impossible (like La Castillería in Vejer). Miquel shuts down his restaurant for the entire month of August! It's much easier in the fall/winter/early spring.

ekscrunchy Oct 4th, 2024 07:36 AM

Myriam, many thanks..I will check it out...I don't care if places are in Michelin, although most of the places I've been choosing lately are mentioned in that guide, but usually without stars.

Has anyone used the Iberia site to book tickets lately? I always seem to have a problem with them.

Maribel Oct 4th, 2024 08:15 AM

I used them to book our r.t Lanzarote for Nov. and last week to book a r.t. to Paris for Feb and need to book soon a flight Madrid-Marrakech-Rabat (final portion on Royal Air Maroc) for March. Sometimes the web page gives me fits so I switch browsers.
Now that we live here we’ll be flying Iberia or partners almost exclusively so I just have to deal.

ekscrunchy Oct 4th, 2024 09:02 AM

Will try doing just that, again!
Now that trip is just about planned, save the air tix, I find out that partner has to have cataract surgery soon.....well, hope for the best...I am moving right along with this...

I CANNOT wait to hear about Lanzarote!
AND Morocco! I've been to that country a few times but last time might have been about 20 years ago, or even more.

Don't miss Rausell in Valencia. Hot off the press in the Gastro section of El País today.

Great..they do not take online bookings but I asked the ONLY YOU to book for us; if they cannot, I will phone.

Maribel Oct 4th, 2024 11:06 PM

Yes, you or the hotel must phone since they don't take online bookings.

ekscrunchy Oct 5th, 2024 07:01 AM

Ok..hotel has booked Rausell for us...so now only have five more nights!!

ekscrunchy Oct 5th, 2024 09:50 AM

All good, have managed to book Iberia flights, but on their UK site.

Napicol, next on my list does not appear to take online bookings this far out (more than one month). Will keep trying.

Maribel, how to get from Only You to Napicol--easy train ride and then...how near to the station is the restaurant?

https://www.napicol.com

For a restaurant out of town, would this be the one? Not sure if I can persuade J to take trains on two different days, although taxi, if not outrageous in price, is an option.

Booked rental car for pickup on day we leave Valencia and drive to Denia.
Then have to get back to Valencia airport in time for 9:40am flight back to JFK, via Madrid......there are probably other agencies that have locations in Denia but I have been so happy with SIXT lately that I went with them....price is fine, with GPs included.

All great....with your invaluable help, I do not have to do much of my own research. I should buy a t-shirt emblazoned with "I FOLLOW WHERE MARIBEL LEADS!) in English and in Spanish!!
When we have a GTG in Spain someday, I will bring the shirts!

Maribel Oct 5th, 2024 11:43 AM

I like that t-shirt.
TJ and wife (HO) and my husband and I had a wonderful, truly delightful and long lunch today at Desde 1911 by Pescaderías Coruñesas in Madrid (best meal of the entire year if not in the last 2 years) and we talked about you and your Valencia-Dènia plans!
TJ truly is truly the expert on Valencia dining. And we all reminisced about Mannix and wonder exactly where Gemma, the daugher, is now. She revolutionized the starters, the desserts and the wine list.
We're headed this week to Burgos to Cobos Estratos (two dining area, Evolución or Tradición) for dinner, and rumor is that she's there, but I will find out!

To get to Napicol I think you can take the C6 from Valencia Nord station, or just take a taxi. But ask on HO and TJ will know! It should be about a 20-minute taxi ride. Not unreasonable.

ekscrunchy Oct 7th, 2024 07:38 AM
