Geez, where were all you people when the polls were open? Probably drinking lattes and whining about lack of vacation time and retirement benefits. This political crap has no place on this board. NO ADVERTISEMENTS.

Thyra Nov 8th, 2000 12:59 PM

Fellow Fodor's folks....I respect the importance of the election and have my own liberal views, but let's move this discussion to a political forum. Fodor's is my beloved escape from everyday life into a world of lovely hotels and interesting sights, these discussions are valid but not here.

Walter Nov 8th, 2000 01:10 PM

jwagner & Thyra: I couldn't agree more! This is from the "Travel Lounge's FAQ". <BR>"Also, we'd prefer that our forums remain focused on travel -- please find another place to voice your non-travel opinions. Any message or reply that violates these rules will be deleted. Nuff said." <BR>Regards, Walter <BR>

This is still a lot better than endless posts defaming or canonizing fellow posters to the board. There's only one political thread - so it's very easy to ignore it if it upsets you because it's so inappropriate. (OK, so it is, but at least it's timely and has only gone on for a day.)

Proud Nov 8th, 2000 03:09 PM

Is the staff at Fodors asleep at the wheel? This is indeed a travel site, not a political soap box! Get this US Citizens: VOTE TODAY! off the board (before The Topper brings it up and up and up!) <BR> <BR>

Tease Nov 8th, 2000 03:18 PM

You were the "topper" this time! If you want the thread to die fast, exercise some self control and don't answer it. At all. Ever again. No matter what. Squelch the urge to have the last word. Or else YOU will be the "topper" and we who don't care but are amused by your reaction will just be entertained.

Yeah Nov 8th, 2000 04:06 PM

To all of you who think this thread has no place here, you are probably right. But if Fodor's won't deal with the McFatty threads, why should they single this one out and delete it? We've had lots of discussions on the board about political systems in Europe and social problems in Europe that have nothing to do with travel. What's so awful about this thread? <BR> <BR>Me, I'm just awaiting the final result. I'm a Gore supporter, but my new nickname for him is "Dead Man Walking." :-)

Marilyn Nov 9th, 2000 05:02 PM

Hi everyone: <BR>I was a poll worker all day Tuesday from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. volunteering my time for the things I believe in. I will post my my real name and email because I am very happy and proud to be an American and a Republican. I've known since I was six yeas old why I am a Republican. I believe in lower taxes, smaller federal government, individual liberty and responsibility, integrity and honesty. I know that the Republican party and George W.Bush share these truths and beliefs. <BR> <BR>Marilyn

James Nov 9th, 2000 09:52 PM

Oh yeah..Georgie..the Ted Kennedy of the Bush clan..what a joke..Only God can help us now.

Holly Nov 9th, 2000 10:06 PM

Oh??? And who did George Dubya kill?

I. Disagree Nov 10th, 2000 04:36 AM

Marilyn <BR>Oh so you believe in individual liberty as does your beloved Republican Party? Of course, what you mean is you believe in selected individual liberties. What you DO NOT believe in is the right of a woman to control her own body, freedom of religion (of course you say it is OK to pray in school as long as it is to Jesus), and separation of church and state. It is odd that your definition of less government is reducing taxes for the rich only, allowing unlimited pollution and the rape of our national parks, and MORE government interference with our own personal choices (see above). Oh, and let us not forget how you want to kill the public schools by issuing vouchers so the religious right can get de-facto tax payer support of their poison spewing private schools. Yes, you are just what this country needs. Bush, if he wins, will further divide this country and set us back years. May God have mercy on the USA and see us through the next 4 years if this happens. Thank you very much.

olala Nov 13th, 2000 11:44 AM

Last time I checked Georgie Jr. still ain't the prez. God willing he never will be.

diane Nov 13th, 2000 01:13 PM

I often hope Bush is elected just to show people that all those awful things they expect to happen WON'T HAPPEN. Bush will probably win Florida because of the absentee ballots. I suspect he will eventually win the popular vote, also because of absentee ballots <BR> <BR>I believe Bush has an MBA from Harvard--isn't that correct? I understand Gore began several graduate programs but dropped out (?). <BR> <BR>The recession of the late 80s/early 90s was over and the recovery was beginning in 1991, BEFORE Clinton was elected. The best thing Clinton has done to keep the economy running well was to continue to use Alan Greenspan, of the Federal Reserve system (also under Bush). Greenspan continues to follow the general economic policies of the Reagan/Bush era that partially account for the good economy today. <BR> <BR>

xxx Nov 13th, 2000 01:39 PM

You liberals just don't get it. It's not the woman's body we are concerned about, it's the other body. Do you know how a partial birth abortion is performed? And if Dubya did accidentally bomb Canada he would admit it and apologize. Al Bore would just tell another lie.

Paloma Nov 13th, 2000 01:40 PM

Diane, I truly do not mean to be disrespectful, but where have you been living these past 20 years, and where do you get your information? Obviously, you and your family were not victims of the "Reagan/Bush" prosperity.

travelincommon Nov 13th, 2000 04:48 PM

1. Why do republicans always bring up partial birth when trying to discuss abortion in general. Even a hard core pro-choice supporter like myself agrees it cruel and should only be done in emergency situations, but ultimately it's between a woman her family and her doctor, not the government. <BR>2. Somone above made a comment to a European about the democrats taxing us all. You'd be advised not to complain about taxes to Europeans. <BR>3. This is a great thread because all of us here have something deeply profound in common -- our love of travel. This initial bond gives us a common ground to work form when discussing these issues.

lola Nov 13th, 2000 05:32 PM

Since this is a travel forum I shall bring this thread around. If Dumb-be-ya weasels in with his appeals I'll be traveling throughout Europe for the next four years!

Lola goofball Nov 13th, 2000 08:10 PM

Lola, <BR> <BR>Can I pack your bags for you? It drives me nuts when people threaten to leave the country if someone is elected. Don't like the results, then run yourself or encourage someone else to run or work in a campaign or at least read something in the newspaper besides your horoscope and the comics.

NONO Nov 14th, 2000 04:27 AM

I don't think we have to worry about Bushie Jr bombing Canada. He is too stupid to find it on a map, let alone be able to give any orders that anyone could understand. The votes for this dimbulb clearly demonstrate the stupidity of 50% of the American voters. Anyone with any common sense has to ask "just what qualifies this child of privilege, who has never had to work a day in his life, has coasted through life on Daddy's money and influence, to be President?". And any thinking person has to answer "NOTHING!!!". If he wins, we can all welcome back the Reagan style of no leadership, raping the economy and environment, massive tax payer rip offs (ala the savings and loans), and 4 years of watching our country go down the tubes. Just say no to Dubya. No No No.

anon Nov 14th, 2000 04:35 AM

A comment regarding Dubya: My aunt said she really felt like the president of the United States ought to at least be as smart as she is.
