elaine Jul 24th, 2003 05:29 AM

A few disclaimers:
I don't like dichotomies much, but if a gun were put to my head...
I'll only respond where I know both places
THere are always mitigating factors:
how long it has been since my last visit, time of year, budget available, time available, etc

Paris
York

W'Abbey

Selfridges

National Gallery

Prince William (are you kidding?)

Blair

janeygirl Jul 24th, 2003 06:25 AM

I'm responding on all, even though I haven't yet seen all. The ones I haven't seen I will pick based on "gut" instinct, along with a little knowledge I've picked up from books and this site.

Selfridges (not that I actually shop at either, living in London as I do)

My brain hurts from crunching numbers. So okay...

London. Nicer cops.
York. Better church.
Warwick. Nicer residents.
St Pauls. Better dome.
Scotland. Yer beer is guid.
Harrods. Better shopping bags.
Cambridge. Better chapel.
Blenheim. Oh please.
Peaks. Closer to Sheffield.
Cumbria. Better sausage.
National. Just because.
Lincoln. Named after a great President.
Charles. As in Edward Stuart? No? Okay, the PoW for his towering intellect.
Natural History. Prefer unnatural, but it will have to do.
Bush. Dim and proud of it.

I'll Bite....

Paris or London? I live in london - so Paris
York or Bath? York, much less touristy
Windsor Castle or Warwick Castle? Windsor - this really is a no contest
Westminster Abbey or St.Pauls Cathedral? St Pauls for the crypt alone
Scotland or Ireland? Scotland - Ireland is a themepark
Harrods or Selfridges? Selfridges, as they have a tattoo parlour
Oxford or Cambridge? Cambridge (another no contest)
Buckingham Palace or Blenheim Palace? Blenheim, you can see all of it, you only see a tiny bit of Buck House
Cotswolds or Peak District? Peak District - less twee
Cornwall or Cumbria? cornwall, after the public school holidays have finished
Tate Modern or National Gallery; National has everything; Tate is a more selective collection
Lincoln or Chester? Lincoln, chester is full of mickey mousers
Prince Charles or Prince William? As Prince William used to drink in my local I would have to plump for him (he's very tall)
Science Museum or Natural History Museum? Science has buttons to push. BEAT THAT!
Bush or Blair? Thatcher

flygirl Jul 25th, 2003 09:18 AM

London -- I can read the signs
York -- The Minster never ceases to delight
Windsor -- To see how the other half lives
St. Paul's -- The music is better
Ireland -- We may be able to sponge off relatives there
Harrods -- I can't stay out of the Christmas shop
Cambridge -- We studied there
Buckingham Palace -- See Windsor Castle
Cotswolds -- Castle Coombe
Cornwall -- Love the Palm trees
William -- He might be capable of learning
As a leader? As a mate? As a target in a pie throwing contest?
