Tuscany
Does anyone have some must do wineries, olive oils, ceramic shops in southern Tuscany?

I'm doing research on this topic as well. From what I've learned, Castello Banfi (in Montalcino) is a popular choice it seems. We're looking into the lunch and wine tasting there.

JennyP--
I believe you are staying at Hotel Giglio? They can arrange winery tours for you. We enjoyed Altesino winery (they also had olive oil). It was more of a private tour and since the weather was so nice, we did our tasting outside. Lovely... Castello Banfi was a pretty drive, and I enjoyed their dessert wine. |
In case you're not aware... click on your own name... or just see your other post at http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34680720

Jenny,
I have the following names of winerys: Avignonesi in Montepulciano Castello Banfi in Montalcino Altesino but I dont know where it is Il Picciole for olive oil I am not recommending anything as we are going to be in Tuscany in the middle of Oct. These are the names I have collected so far. Anyone know about any of these? |
Altesino is down the hill from Montalcino. You can see Montalcino from the winery. Sorry, I don't have specific directions, but I'm sure your hotel can help you out better than I can. If I can find my map, I'll try to give more info.
