There are several Tulip Inns in the area. Are you referring to the one on Spuistraat? I stayed there a couple of years ago, and it was very good 3-star type accommodation. The breakfast was absolutely divine, even by Dutch standards. The location was great as well.

their restaurants are very good and a good value

Tulip Inn Dam Square is not the same one that is on Spuistraat....The one on Spuistraat is called City Centre, i think, and it is situated on the Singel Canal...The Dam Square one is behind Dam Square on a skinny little street...I have never stayed in the one by Dam Square, but have walked by it plenty of times and it does look really nice, however, I prefer to stay on a canal...

hi, thanks all. it was of course full. the only decent hotel where i still found, by luck, a room was the Hotel Estherya. it is of course much more expensive. probably Amsterdam is no place for last minute reservations. shula

Hotel Estheria is great, I have stayed there..It is in a perfect location on the Singel Canal and walking distance to almost everything...The breakfasts are also great...Hope you have a fun trip!!
