Transportation in Paris

Transportation safely in Paris.
From the airport to the Saint-Germain-des-Pres in Paris which is the best option? use the services of a taxi or subscribe to UBER?
When we got is not that complicated but the return we have to leave the hotel very early in the morning and would like to book a reliable means of transportation.
Thanks for the advice.

The most reliable is the metro and RER but it all depends on how early is early.

Taxis and Ubers show up... or not, although it appears that a taxi reserved the night before is much more of a sure thing than Uber.

Thanks Kerouac for your quick response. Do you know any good taxi place where I can make that reservation the night before? I guess that will work all night ..
Thanks

mamcalice Apr 24th, 2015 04:44 AM

Since you are staying in a hotel, have them make the taxi reservation for you. In our experience (9 times in Paris) we have never had a problem with a taxi showing up early in the morning.

Taxis G7 is the biggest company. Their English language reservation number is 01 41 27 66 99.

My last taxi from St Germain to CDG was about 40 euro's. I've had a few problems with shared airport shuttles but only once with a taxi and St Germain is such a busy street I doubt you will have much of a problem. Depending on how early you need to leave follow kerouc and mamcalice's suggestion and book the night before.

I will admit to being a nervous nellie about being late and if the taxi is a minute behind schedule I start to worry. If the hotel books the taxi have them give you the number and locate a telephone for use in the early hours if you don't have a cell telephone. Usually, small hotel front desks don't open early but bakeries always do and they will make a call for you if the taxi runs late.

Like Ker and Mam say.
RER starts at 5 am or something like this I think so if very early is very early only option might well be taxi.

Hotel should arrange for a taxi without a problem. DH and I used a shuttle a couple of times and it was fine except it wasn't a straight shot to/from the airport if other travelers were sharing the shuttle. For us, it was worth the price to have the car to ourselves and no schlepping luggage through train station either.

ANOTHER, the hotel will arrange a taxi for you. It will arrive with a small charge on the meter from the taxi stand and it will continue to run--so be in the lobby ready for the taxi when it arrives.

kerouac Apr 24th, 2015 06:17 AM

Most reserved taxis arrive about 5 minutes early.

I had saved this from another site. I had not heard of an English speaking operator and thought I might pass it along.

Taxi - I recommend G7 at:

English operator at 01 41 27 66 99

As Kerouac commented above, I used taxi G7 from the 4eme to CDG a few weeks ago. I called the evening before using the English language telephone number. Reserved for a 7 am pickup. Taxi was there at 6:55am. Couldn't have been easier.

Ooops, Sorry kerouc. I see that I posted info you had already provided.

Gretchen Apr 25th, 2015 09:03 AM

For the taxi callers, out of curiosity, was there any charge on the meter as there would have been for one called from a nearby taxi stand?

powhatangal Apr 25th, 2015 04:35 PM

I didn't look at the meter when I got in the taxi, but it was only about 59€ for the trip so even if there were some € already on the meter, the total was reasonable I think for the 3 of us.

We have always used http://www.shuttle-inter.com/ - They have english speaking drivers with you name on a sign to pick you up and drop you off at the apartment or hotel. We use then to go back to the airport , they have even picked us up at 4:30 AM and are always on time!!

Gretchen Apr 26th, 2015 09:51 AM

Wasn't talking so much about the economy as if it was any different from the hotel arranging the cab for you from a stand nearby.
