translate "couverts" please

When making a restaurant reservation by email they have a "fill in the blank" type reservation request. What is "couverts"? (Cover?? what). Je ne parle pas francais.

tedgale May 9th, 2010 05:41 PM

Covers. IE the number of places you require.

mimipam May 9th, 2010 05:52 PM

Sooo - "couverts" would be for the number of persons and "pour" is maybe the time???

Lutetia May 9th, 2010 07:45 PM

Yes, "couverts" refers to "place settings".

joannyc May 9th, 2010 07:58 PM

Pour is the french for 'for' so probably the site is asking for the number of people in your party.

Temps is the french for 'time'.

Hi,

if asking for a reservation, "heure" would be the translation for "time"
pour quelle heure ?

hanl May 9th, 2010 11:38 PM

Yes, as others have said, couverts = covers (in restaurant speak), i.e. place settings.
It also means cutlery.

kerouac May 10th, 2010 03:02 AM

"4 couverts pour 20h" would be "a party of 4 at 8 p.m."

Maybe you should give a link to the site you're looking at or list the questions that are asked to get complete help.

mimipam May 10th, 2010 06:47 AM

Thanks!! I believe kerouac has it right for that site. It has couverts_____________________ pour_________________.
Happy travels!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mimipam May 10th, 2010 06:49 AM

Thanks for the website that translates. I will add it to my favortie list.

Cholmondley_Warner May 10th, 2010 06:57 AM

The phrase "mon aéroglisseur est plein des anguilles" will cover pretty much all you need in a restaurant.

kerouac May 10th, 2010 09:21 AM

Of course you mean d'anguilles, CW. Stop teasing us about your mastery of French.
