Train reservation to Naples

Hi,

I am catching a train from Florence to Rome on Wednesday and arrive there at 09:30am. I want to go to Pompeii for a day trip the same day, but I believe I need a reservation for the ES train to naples. If I wanted to catch the 09:45 train to Pompeii, would I have time to make the reservation? - how long in advance do you usually need to reserve.

Or, can I purchase the reservation for Rome - Naples, from the station in Florence?

Hi Pat,

Yes, buy your ticket to Naples at the same time you buy your ticket to Rome.

You can buy all of the train tickets you want in one stop.

Hi Ira,

Thanks for your quickly reply. I actually have a eurail pass so i won't be buying the tickets. I just need to buy the reservations so does the same apply? i.e. i can get the reservation from florence?

could you please tell me anyway, how long it does take to make a reservation if i was to wait till i get to rome?

thanks!

Since the train arriving in Rome at 9:30 is a Eurostar, you will have to reserve it also, so you might as well get your reservation for the whole trip. Alternatively you can wait an hour later and get a train from Florence direct to Naples without having to change in Rome.

Hi pat,

Since you have a railpass you will have to make reservations for all ES* trains and pay a supplement as well.

Can you cash in your railpass?

If NOT - don't read any further.

IF YES - enter your itinerary at www.railsaver.com and see if you will save money.

Unfortunately I cant cash in my railpass.

Could I ask what the supplement is for? I have checked the online train timetable and mentions about buying the special supplement. But I don't know why I need it..

Hi pat.

The Eurail people are ticket agents. When you buy a railpass it is good for travel on a train, but doesn't guarantee a seat.

Therefore, when you want or need a seat reservation you have to pay an extra fee.

You can get all of your reservations at the same time.
