train from rome to naples
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if I need to make a reservation for the train from Rome to Naples? I have the schedule but am wary to make a reservation in case our flight is delayed into Rome. We will be travelling in August which I know is high season and I wasn't sure if an open ticket would guarantee us a seat (there will be 4 of us) Thank you very much! |
If you're taking the Eurostar then reservations are mandatory and are included with the ticket.
Last time in Rome the plane landed on time (or a few minutes early) but it took an hour for the bags to arrive (overseas flight). Allow plenty of time to collect your luggage and plan your train travel accordingly. |
Hi lauren,
It took us 3 1/2 hr after the plane was scheduled to land to get our luggage and get to Rome TE. (0800 to 1130) We had made reservations for the 1230 ES* and spent a pleasant hour at the train station having lunch, people watching, and getting used to being in Italy. |
Ira,
Did you take the Eurostar to Naples? We're training from Rome to Naples in May. (Then boat to Positano). Any recomendation on train to Naples is appreciated. Be well, pete |
Yes, Pete.
We took the 1230 ES* (eurostar) to Naples. Schedules are at www.trenitalia.com/en If you want to purchase tickets before arriving in Italy, see Trenitalia Tickets Online http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34465647 |
PS,
The ES* trains are more dependable than the IC trains, even though the IC schedule is the same. We took the IC from Naples to Rome. It arrived 2 hr late. |
Thanks Ira,
We will toast to your good health. pete & wendy |
You are welcome, Pete.
Have a nice trip. |
