???? Sep 12th, 2002 06:34 AM

?????

Jennie Sep 12th, 2002 06:42 AM

Ummm . . . there's a book called "Under the Tuscan Sun" by Frances Mayes. Could this be the book you're thinking of?

If not, try Amazon.com. I hear they have a lot of books on that site. ;0)

Jennie

Isn't that the name of the book that Dario (a tour guide in Tuscany) wrote? Dario fans, can you help this person find the book?

mmmm Sep 12th, 2002 07:24 AM

THe book isn't out yet in the book stores but can be ordered directly from Dario I think he has a sort of 'special edition' that you can order directly from him

BOB THE NAVIGATOR Sep 12th, 2002 07:36 AM

Yes, That is Dario's book which is not out yet---I cannot wait. I have ordered one of his special edition copies thru his site. Meanwhile, if you love Tuscany, get " Vanilla Beans & Brodo" by Isabella Dusi thru amazon.com.

Suepondrow Sep 12th, 2002 09:04 AM

I met Dario (thanks to Fodors) and he read a chapter when we were having lunch under a maple tree overlooking the most beautiful valley in Tuscany. It was hilarious, you can order the book if you contact Dario at [email protected] . Specify that you are friends of Sue that Dario took out 2 weeks ago

inquiring minds Sep 12th, 2002 09:18 AM

Did Dario write his book in English, or in Italian and then have it translated for an English version?

BOB THE NAVIGATOR Sep 12th, 2002 01:01 PM

Dario speaks perfect english--I think he grew up in the UK. However, I think he may have a partner on the book.

jamie Sep 12th, 2002 01:07 PM

Another Dario fan here! The book is in English, yes Dario speaks fluent English
I think it was written together with an American author

Francine Sep 12th, 2002 01:09 PM

I think the other author is called Robert Rodi from Chicago which explains why you read about it on the Chicago news. I have ordered the book through Dario directly

xxx Sep 12th, 2002 02:24 PM

Dear Sue,
I hope Dario's girlfriend is not the jealous (or revengeful) type!

Sue Sep 12th, 2002 11:51 PM

I mean Dario took me and my husband out on one of his tours. We even met his girlfriend (wife?) later on during the day,and she is really quite beautiful

confused Sep 13th, 2002 06:01 AM

So,whats all this about? who is Dario, an author ? a guide? what is this book about?

Jenny Sep 15th, 2002 09:08 AM

You know what I'm going to order it, I have read so many posts about him on this site that the guy intrigues me. Anyone else?
I have read Under the Tuscan Sun and a book called Too Much Tuscan Sun sounds pretty curious

Jenny Sep 17th, 2002 05:52 AM

I ordered it! if you contact Dario at [email protected] he will reply directly, can't wait to read it!

DDDD Sep 29th, 2002 01:06 AM

Are we talking about the same Dario that often answers threads on this site? I have read an article about him on the Toledo Blade, they really give him full marks, I did'nt realize though that he had written a book, at least it wasn't mentioned on the article

Cristina Sep 29th, 2002 01:23 AM

I am one of the lucky who have read the entire book. He loaned me a final draft and I sat down the next afternoon to read it, knowing that I would never finish it before he needed it back the following day since I have two toddlers who keep me quite busy. Well it was so good that I never put it down. Finished the whole book (the first I have read cover to cover since my oldest was born)in record time. I laughed throughout and got teary eyed at the end. It is well written and a wonderful insight into us Americans.

Vanessa Oct 2nd, 2002 09:40 AM

I also met Dario on a tour of Chianti, my opinion is that he is simply adorable, he read us a chapter and I was just crying with laughter the whole time. I really hope that it makes the book stores in the US, in the meantime I am on his list for an autographed copy!

Janice Oct 10th, 2002 03:36 AM

Another lucky one that read the book, I was touring with Dario for 3 days so he left me the original manuscript to read in the evenings, I was so stunned that an Italian can write like an English novel-pro writer. I think we have an upcoming best seller. You may think that I am crazy but I orderd 10 copies to give as gifts. Hurray for Dario

Gerard Oct 10th, 2002 03:38 AM

It seems to me as if its only women that reply to this thread, is Dario a macho latin lover or what?

Gloria Oct 10th, 2002 01:44 PM

Sounds like my type...

Question Oct 15th, 2002 04:34 AM

Just a curiosity, how many fodorites have met Dario? It seems to me that he is pretty popular

John Oct 16th, 2002 08:12 AM

I had the pleasure about 10 years ago, he picked us up at our hotel in Florence and with a 4 wheel drive he took us into the wilderness. I will never forget what a great day we had, thanks to this site I have discovered that he has written a book, well knowing Dario it must be very witty.

Fran Oct 21st, 2002 10:51 AM

Thank you Dario for having sent me your autographed copy!! Its wonderful, I think that you really have done a great job, the April chapter should become a movie, good luck!!

diane Oct 21st, 2002 12:01 PM

Okay, for us new ones, some information please. Where does his tour take you, how much per person, and how do we book a tour. We are 4 women who will be there this june.

Peter Oct 30th, 2002 10:08 AM

Ok Now lets talk seriously!! I have just finished reading the book and I must admit that it was years since I last read such a witty book, your confessions are simply remarkable. I really hope it becomes a bestseller, bravo!!!

JohnsonQ Oct 30th, 2002 10:09 AM

A masterpiece, Dario gives us an idea of the real Tuscany, pity that one can only order it privately

diane Oct 30th, 2002 11:19 AM

I'm going to italy next year and would like to take one of dario's tours. There will be 4 of us all women, will be there the second week of June. Does anyone know how long the tour is where he takes you and how much for 4? How does one get in touch with him for a tour and does he go to Siena?
Thanks everyone
Diane

sadnews Oct 30th, 2002 01:04 PM

A few days ago there was a topic called something like "What would you have done" from Dario about an incident in a restaurant involving an insane French man. Dario was a little rattled by the somewhat horrible experience and was genuinely asking what would you have done.

Then, he gets called a troll and is insulted for being anti French and all sorts of horrible Fodors evil-doer crap (My inner 5-year-old wishes those people would eat worms and die). After a heap of abuse--on top of this horrible episode mind you--he said he would not be known on this forum again. I hope that is not true, but wouldn't blame him. The horrible people here have driven me into anonymity and will proably ruin this wonderful site all together. More power to the editors for deleting all the crap they can.

PLEASE COME BACK DARIO...we must all learn to ignore the creepy little people here who are really so so sad because their small and insignificant lifes drive them to act out. And no offense meant, but I think most of them are men with major inadequacy problems, if you know what I mean and we should pity their misfortune. (Nah...they should eat worms and die!)
