Toledo, Spain

Whist visiting Madrid, I took a day trip to the nearby city of Toledo. The former capital of Spain, this historical gem offers an excellently preserved window into central Spain's diverse and colourful past. Here is my picture review of Toledo's fabulous Old Town! :-)

It only took me about 30 mins on the direct high speed AVE train between Madrid (Atocha Station) and Toledo - tickets can be bought in the station, but it is also possible to make reservations in advance :-)

Thanks for reading!

On my bucket list! Thanks, nice blog.

Great pictures! I visited Toledo about six years ago and thought it was wonderful. Glad you did as well! :)

I do not know if it was my imagination or the light itself, but some skies in Toledo look like an El Greco.

Thanks for posting. We'll be visiting Toledo and Madrid for the first time this fall.

Like others who have been there recently, we think Toledo at night is worth a stay. It does not have to be a long stay, but there IS a difference in the town once all the tour groups leave.

I recently returned from spending 4 nights in Toledo. Loved every minute. We lived like a local in an apartment in the old section. Every night we were serenaded by an orchestra at the music conservatory nearby. Evenings were magic.

Good additional information. Our plan is to spend 3 nights/2 full days there. Glad to hear people enjoy it as more than just a day trip as well. We have also booked an apartment fairly close to the cathedral.

debinthepeg, We just did the same thing you are planning. Toledo was great. I'm glad we spent three nights there.

Good to hear! I'm looking forward to visiting and I'm sure we'll be able to amuse ourselves for 2 days. And, if we run out of things to do, our apartment has a lovely terrace that we can enjoy some Spanish wine on and relax.

We spent 2 nights there and I could easily have spent a third night. So go for 3 nights! There is so much to see and it's a pleasure just to wander the streets. The apartment sounds nice, too, debinthepeg!

Thanks Progol.

It's funny, often on the "other" forum (TA), I get asked why I would want to spend that much time in Toledo - lol.

It's all about style of travel I guess. I think at my age (50), I just not in that much of a hurry anymore and really appreciate some time just to soak up things.

Looking forward to your report on Madrid! It's great you've taken the time to write your report and share all of that wonderful information with others. I'm a "details" kind of person, so your report has been a pleasure to read.

As anyone stayed or eaten at the Parador in Toledo recently?

When I looked at TA for Spain, the vast majority of the questions were regarding resort areas.

Was there last October. In a tour and not enough time. Thanks for photos.

Heading there in October...getting excited...thanks for the pics!

Percy Jun 18th, 2015 07:48 PM

Those great views of Toledo skyline ,may are taken from the Parador location and lookout.

michele_d Jun 18th, 2015 08:03 PM

Percy...how did you get to the lookout? I've read you have to walk to it and somewhere else it said you took a bus.
