Here's a recent experience I just had at the Ritz London.

I had a dear, dear cat who's name was Puttin' on the Ritz, so whle just in London a week ago, I thought I'd like to get something from the Ritz Hotel with the name Ritz on it.

I was wearing nice top, jeans and nice shoes. I walked in the lobby, was looking around and a gentleman from the hotel asked me if he could help me. I asked him if they had a gift shop. He pointed to the concierge area. I went to the concierge area and a very nice young man showed me a list of what I could purchase. On the list was a very nice Do Not Disturb sign with their logo on it. Since I had thought about starting to collect Do Not Disturb signs, I decided to go ahead and buy it even though it was an outrageous 15 pounds.

I had a very nice conversation with the man helping me, who was standing on the other side of a counter. Never missing the opporutunity to use a clean bathroom, I asked him where the public toilet was. He told me, let me show you madame and he came out from behind the counter to show me. As he came out the closet, he looked at me up and down and said, "oh, madam, you're wearing jeans, I'm sorry, we have a dress code and you cannot go through the area with jeans after 11am"

I think the area he was referring to was the "tea area". Anyway, I was not insulted at all by his comment and I told him it was no problem. He thanked twice for being understanding and not making a fuss at his refusal.

I actually thought it was kind of humorous...but I wonder, if I were a guest or a celebrity, I wonder if the 'dress code' would have been the same.
But either way, I have my Do Not Disturb sign with my cat's name on it. :)

That's a nice story Lyb. We've recently lost a much loved old cat who was treated like a princess and who, unlike her plebeian owners, would have been quite at home in the lounge at the Ritz I'd imagine.

This subject could be a subject for a Master's thesis. What does a city of a multi-million residents do with all of their waste? At what time will the waste overtake the city's ability to process it? If our world is shortly to host nine billion humans and their pets what plans have been made for the waste? Maybe more 'off lobby' WCs?

Willtravel. My experience at the Ritz was about 10 years ago.
Lyb, I can't believe they still have a dress code in this day and age.
Crazy.
One of my stupid little fantasies is to stay in the penthouse and go in and out with my oldest jeans on.

Kodi,
>>Lyb, I can't believe they still have a dress code in this day and age.<,

That's why I think that if I were a celebrity or a guest -- there would be no 'dress code'...but as I also said, the young man was very pleasant and apologetic, so it was more humorous to me than anything else.
