I've never had a problem with surly Paris waiters, but then I always make a point of taking along a present of some cake mix.

"vacate and pay a fine" -- pull the other one, StCirq - it might come off in your hand.
Can you direct me to a list of hotel fines applied in Paris? |
Good idea chartley, because they can be really unpleasant if you try to fob off marshmallows on them.

Kerouac :
Dishonest behavior in hotels and restaurants is called "délit de grivèlerie" and is punishable according to article 313-5 of the French Code Pénal. |

Thanks pvoy - google turned up this with the help of our info:
ARTICLE 313-5 ... Swindling is when a person, knowing himself to be wholly unable to meet payment or being determined not to pay: 1° orders food or drink in premises where food or drink are sold; 2° books and effectively occupies one or more bedrooms in an establishment letting rooms, where the occupation does not exceed ten days; ..... Swindling is punished by six months' imprisonment and a fine of € 7,500. Maybe jsims can wind up with some free lodging courtesy of the French government. |

Aw, be careful what you ask for, eh? Now, I really can't wait for the trip report, "Parisian jails are just awful. Had to sleep 3 to a bunk. We drew straws to see who would pick up the soap ..." |
And you think that hotels collect fines? Do you have any idea how long it would take to get to court?
