I bragged to muy husband about this post and the great respnse it has gotten...he doesn't get it. I am soooo happy and excited it has gotten so many responses and know one has been mean! What i really find interesting is that people are offering personal info. I have to tell you I am SO curious about all of you (another conversation my husband finds terribly boring). I try to guess what everyone does, what they look like, where they are from etc...Is that weird?
Elizabeth I LOVE MOVIES and I can't wait to check out that website.

panucci Jul 30th, 2004 03:53 PM

I would also really like to know how to get those cute little icons on my posts!

I'm afraid I might look like Scarlett's Pup. How's that for a mental image.

kybourbon Jul 30th, 2004 04:22 PM

There are pictures of many of us online at Fodor GTG's.

Scarlett Jul 30th, 2004 05:29 PM

panucci, email me and I will send you Pups photo ((&)) He says he does not mind.

P_M Jul 30th, 2004 06:20 PM

Kybourbon, in my earlier post I said that in my mental pictures of the Fodorites, most of you are pretty good looking. I just visited the web page you told us about, and was I ever right!! What a great looking group of people!! I see that there was a meeting of Fodorites here in Austin in Jan. 2001. Sadly I was not a Fodorite then and missed the meeting. :-( I hope there will be another one soon.

panucci Jul 30th, 2004 06:56 PM

Thanks Marcy ! Now that I have the page I have to ask my kids to show me what to do with it.
Thanks kybourbon that was really fun to see the fodorites pictures. So when is the next gathering. I vote Chicago or Italy. I will be in Italy the first 2 weeks in Oct. Santa Margherita, Tuscany (Pienza) and Rome.
Somewhere we seemed to get over the concern about our addiction

kybourbon Jul 30th, 2004 07:51 PM

P_M - There was a Fodors GTG this past March in Dallas. Type gtg in the search function and start scrolling - you will find many GTG's.

I will be in Boston/Cambridge Labor DAy weekend. Anyone want to start a Boston GTG?

Marilyn Jul 30th, 2004 07:59 PM

Just to set the record straight, Scarlett is the bee-you-tee-ful one; I'm just a smart-a$$.

P_M, you can see more photos of SF area fodoriffics at http://www.worldisround.com/articles/23795/index.html

Why don't you organize a GTG in your area? It is so much fun to meet the people behind the names!

Mellow greetings my fabulous 'fodettes' (and 'Fodes' of course : not to leave anyone out!).
Its a beautiful day here in the ol' UK and Ive just been reviewing the 'overnights'. By now all you USF's (USA Fodettes!) will be tucked up in your 'cots' so I'll try to be very quiet not as to disturb your dreams.
PM was right Ive just had a peek at 'worldisround and fisherfowler' and what a stunning bunch you all are. Whats more youre MY GENERERATION! No wonder I have an affinity to you all!
I'm glad you liked the 'wibble' Scarlett. I come from a long line of 'wibblers' and 'wibble whenever i get the chance!(they cant touch you for it you know!)would you mind if I e-mailed you too I'd love to see a photo of Pup!
Panucci : Give yourself a big pat on the back, youve 'hatched' a winner here! Of course your husband doesnt understand, it's a 'girl' thing. Its in our genes to be inquisitive (my hubby calls it nosy!) and definately not wierd.
I niped onto the 'where do you live' post to see where you all hail from, and as to what we do, of course I'm a singer, dancer, actress, model! (well it sounds more interesting than a boring business counsultant!).
I too have visited the 'smileys' page but am none the wiser as to how to implement them and like you will have to consult my son.
Scarletts pup sounds cute cuddly and sweet so i wouldnt worry about looking like him! After all its whats inside that counts. As Forrest Gump once said 'Hansome is as hansome does' and on that premise we have all got gorgeous souls here!
Thanks to Kybourbon and Marilyn for pointing me to the photo sites.
I checked out your posting Marilyn and I was right, Monroe to a tee!
I'm intrigued to know what it says on the note pinned to your bosom!
Anyhoo must dash now to do some lunch for the ol man.
Nightiy night sweet dreams.

I humbly come before you this morning to admit, "I am an addict."

Until last night I didn't want to admit it, even though Fodors is the first place I visit in the morning, the last place I visit before I go to bed, and I wander into Fodorland numerous times during the course of the day, so often I can't begin to count the times. My husband is my enabler - we read posts to each other. When he's surfing on Fodors I'm jealous - I want to know what's going on. When we dress, we wonder if M_Kingdom would approve of our choice of attire. In conversation we refer to various posters by their names, as if they were long time friends from high school. But still, I did not recognize my addiction....until last night.

I dreamed of "BTilke". I've never met BTilke nor do I know what s/he looks like, but last night in my dream I was looking for a travel book and there was a woman with dark hair reading the book I wanted and I found myself saying, "Oh, you're BTilke!" I awoke...in a cold sweat...no wait, that was a hot flash. I sat up in bed, put my head in my hands while shaking my head "no", and proclaimed, "I AM AN ADDICT!!!" God, help me.

Where do I go to sign up for the 12-step program? Peace.

Robyn

Scarlett Jul 31st, 2004 06:00 AM

Happy Saturday, All!
panucci, the photo album is on its way!
Countrymouse, just write!
Marilyn, your nose is getting longer! LOL
Robyn-I thought you were describing me! I think this is serious and the only cure can be more travel and some reeealy Beeeg GTGs, one in each members home town :D

*ICONS*
go to the icon page, copy/paste the symbols and insert them into your post, preview first to be sure it worked before posting your reply. OR memorize the ones you like best...mine is (( L )) for ((L)) or (( F )) for ((F)) and then there is (( & )) for ((&))
Hope this helped : ) :)

panucci Jul 31st, 2004 08:04 AM

((L))((&)) That is so cool. Thanks.
Does anyone dream of questions or get upset when someone insults your response? Maybe I'm too sensitive to be a fodorite. Actually, I think this year people have been, for the most part, nice and funny. Good job :)
Scarlett, I sent you pics of my dogs. Pup is great. I hear The standard poodles are scary smart.

Marilyn Jul 31st, 2004 10:07 AM

countrymouse, when you are posting early in the morning, I am almost always on the computer as it is late night here on the left coast. The board can be very boring then, so please don't think we are ALL asleep!

The "note" is actually a name tag that says my fodors name, my real name, and which forums I post on. Remember, none of us had ever met before, so the nametags were helpful.

artstuff, I do think dreaming about a fodorite you've never met is a SERIOUS sign of addiction. If Phil Flash were as into this as I am, life would be very scary indeed. We would be living in a virtual world, peopled by the phantoms of screen names we can only imagine. Yikes.

Here's another way to tell if you are an addict:
When you sleepwalk, instead of waking up in front of the refrigerator, you wake up in front of the computer, and you've already posted. :-D

Scarlett Jul 31st, 2004 10:59 AM

Hallooo, THank you panucci for the photos! Your pups are beautiful!!
Yes, standard poodles are very smart..nothing like going into the kitchen in the morning and seeing him reading the Times with my husband..sheesh! :D

Marilyn , very funny and too close to the truth!! hee hee..although I think I still just dream about places and not actual Fodorites..unless that was Degas in that Italian dream ;)

seagulls Jul 31st, 2004 11:31 AM

I have to tell everyone what just happened. The timing is hysterical and only confirms that I have a bonafide fodors problem that everyone in my family is aware of. My 20 year old son was "annoyed" at me and wanted me to "leave him alone". "Joking around" he said - "Why don't you go play on Fodors.com!" I couldn't stop laughing!

P_M Jul 31st, 2004 06:35 PM

And what did you do?....you went straight to the Fodors board!! You are indeed one of us, but that's a good thing. Very funny, thanks for sharing that story. :-))

This is my 4th visit today. This has become my second world, but is quickly becoming my primary world. This is serious....

Countrymouse Aug 1st, 2004 03:20 AM

Good morning All.
Welcome Robyn/artstuff, fear not my dear you are in safe hands here! it's nice to hear that you and your husband 'Fode' together. We should suggest this to marriage guidance, 'the couple who 'Fode' together, stay together' or something like that!

Hi scarlett an e-mail is on its way.
what an intelligent pooch you have! We try to get Toby to improve his reading material but he will insist on sticking to the 'trash' press. He just loves the lives of the rich and famous, especially anything about CATherine Zeta Jones! Ho Ho!
I'm so in favour of a big GTG, however I'm not sure my little village is quite ready for an influx of crazy Fodorites! I could end up in the village duck pond for instigateing it! Maybe i should move to somewhere i would be more 'incognito'! However 'have plastic, will travel'.
Many thanks for the icons tip.Tried to access the Icons page but it was offline for some reason.,will try again another day.

Panucci : I too am a sensitive soul . When I first replied to some threads I found myself being knocked back, but thank goodness I found you lot who are friendly and kind. Its like being enveloped in warm chocolate, coming here! (Now that is SERIOUSLY wierd!).

YooHoo Marilyn are you out there?. Its noon here so perhaps you will have gone to bed now. That 'note' is a good idea, perhaps we could e-mail each other this info. I would find this most interesting. I knew I was an addict when I got up to go to the bathroom in the night and went to the computer first!

Seagulls : Your son sounds just like mine.(he is 22 ). When he 'sasses' me now I threaten to call him my 'little fluffy baa lamb' in front of his friends, and usually shuts him up!

PM that's so true! I wake up in the morning looking forward to seeing what new postings have arrived. I'm really a hopeless case.
Question for you all : Do the really seriously deranged know they are mad or do they think everyone else is out of sync? Mad but happy, that would suit me!
Off to e-mail Scarlett.
Ta ta for now.

Everyone has their own crazy. You just have to find the people that compliment yours (or are just really fun).:S-
Countrymouse, I have a Tobi also (and a Cali and a Jordy, talk about crazy) Tobi isn't much of a reader, she prefers TV. She's still a teen and really likes MTV, but luckily I think she is beginning to tire of it and is opting for the discovery channel. Maybe I should bring her to Italy. She would love the cats in Rome.
