The weather is still blah, as Thin will probably tell us.

Bubble tea, we are next to one in Brussels and had to google. Holy Moly, I would rather eat those calories than drink them. Sorry the weather is bla.

Well after a few nights in Paris I went down south, where it's been too sunny. Rental car is often in the high 90s or over 100 if I get in after parking it for awhile.

Arms and legs are getting a good tan. I'd advise one of those hats with a wide brim to shade the back of your neck.

I was in Avignon during the heat wave of 2003, and if I could not find a place to park in the shade, when I came back to the car, the thermometer often showed a temperature of about 40° on the dashboard.

Beat you by a week - arrived this past Monday. The city is quiet for July, as tourists are slow to return. My one pre-buy was a ticket for the Carnavalet this coming Tuesday - the renovation is supposed to be fabulous. I will of course report all this to my fellow Fodorites as soon as I can after one more week here, then back to the US.

Is there now an admission charge for the Carnavalet? On their site, they state that admission to their permanent collections is free, although you now have to reserve a date and time because of health regulations. https://www.carnavalet.paris.fr/

Hope you're having a great time and look forward to your report.

No, the Carnavalet is free, but you still have to go through a ticket site for the free municipal museums because they didn't feel like creating a new program just for that. When you confirm your "purchase" the amount to pay is displayed as 0.00.

Just visited today, and my last time there was long enough ago that I have no strong memories. But the upgrade they have done is fabulous. I found it not just culturally and historically outstanding - the entry exhibits simply showing old street and shop signs were unexpectedly extremely moving to me. A reminder that Paris is not just great art and monuments, but also the march of simple people over the centuries, and their legacy in "ordinary" ways is just as profound. I do not ever remember moving through a museum so deliberately, or taking so many pictures. Much more of this in due course.

This description captures perfectly what I find most beautiful about Paris. Thank you! Love the Carnavalet and hope to revisit the city sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the report on the Carnavalet, Semimike. Will be following yours & Thin’s trips. We’ll be there at the end of September.

Hope the rain Germany and Belgium are getting right now passes by you. That is just horrible. Houses just floating away and many missing in the flood water.

Thin, thanks for the photos. It’s exquisite!

I walked by it around the end of June.

They had a lot of security guard types out on the street.

Historic but not really interesting to me otherwise.
