Thermal spas in Italy
 

I've read many posts and websites about the thermal spas in Italy, but I can't find anything about prices, and unfortunatly we all have budgets!! Can anyone give me an idea of the cost of, say a massage at a spa near Siena? Or the cost of a soak in a thermal pool? In the US we have hot springs where you can go for free and just soak in the hot water. In Canada I've been to hot springs where the spring has been built into a tiled pool, and we paid a minimal amount ($5 or less pp) to soak. How are these pools set up in Italy? I'd like to put one in our plans, but I also need to put it in the budget :-(

We visited L'Antica Querciolaia in Rapolano which is about 30-45 minutes from Sienna. Three huge pools that were different temps. You could soak for 11 euros a day. My husband got a massage around 45 euros, and I got a hot mud pack for close to the same. It was something we hadn't planned on doing, but was a great break from all of the walking. Well worth it, we thought.

Best spa town in Italy is Fiuggi, 40 miles SE of Roma. Two facilities, Bonaficio VIII and Anticolano Terme.

GJ - any idea what the cost is???

I can't speak of that particular terme, but in my experience, admission has been $15-$20 for a full day, or about 3/4 of that for the afternoon. Sometimes lounge chairs are extra, also towels if you don't have your own. Also some require everyone to wear a swim cap.

Montacatini is nice too. Beware, the natural spring water is really salty and very sulfery. It is a great place.

I have not stayed at this 3 star hotel, but I got information on it when we were in Italy. It is near the beautiful town of Pitigliano, in Tuscany. The Hotel Valle Orientina. It has a thermal pool and it does not apear expensive, about $80 USD a nite, which includes the use of the pool. The pool is open all year. This area is the thermal pool region, or so they state. This area is beauriful. Do a google search. Have fun.

Just returned yesterday from Tuscany. Visited Bagno Vingale for a short stop between leaving Montalcino and heading to San G. Used the thermal pool at the hotel Posta. It was fantastic. Had an amazing view of the landscape from the heated pools. We paid 10E each for to use the pool for a couple of hours. Had lockers we could use. A very relaxing way to spend a few hours.

JWard: thanks, that's the kind of thing I wanted to know. I didn't say it in my first post (and should have) but we already have a hotel in Siena, so I just want to go soak and maybe have a massage. Don't need lodging.

I'm reviving this old thread because I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about Bagno Vingale mentioned by JWard in this thread. In particular, I'm wondering where exactly it is.

When you ask for info about places around the Pienza area, are you in particular looking for info on other hot springs, or just info in general on things to do?
